Took my six year old daughter for her first round on a golf course today. We went up to Swanstons 9 hole 'Templar' course which has holes ranging from 80 yards up to 156 yards and is designed for kids/beginners and short game practice.

Prior to today, she's never even swung a club before and thoroughly enjoyed herself. She's asked if we can play again tomorrow!

Even better, I hit six greens in regulation and only narrowly missed the other three........... :D

I agree.
The club looks too long and heavy for her.
What I would suggest is to get her a junior club.
There is a big range of sizes available most with light and flexible graphite shafts which she would find much easier to swing. They are sold individually for about £10-£15 each.
Try looking at 'young gun golf'
or 'woodworm golf'

Lastly, try and encourage her gently to finish her swing up on her right toe :D

Good luck

for god's sake chop a couple of clubs for her

I agree!
I used to take my daughter Lydia out on the course with me, I got hold of a chopped down 7 iron for her and used to give her 3 or 4 of my older balls and let her get on with it.
After a couple of holes she would come up to me for more "ammo" but she got quite good in the end.
Shame she is now 20 and has discovered beer, pubs and boys.

My wee girl is only 2 but has taken to hitting her cousins plastic clubs/balls around the front room.

When she's older i'll take her up the course, if nothing else will be a nice way to spend more time with her.

Until she finds lads and going out right enough!!

For everyone's information, the clubs she's using are a junior set aimed at 4-7 year olds! 15 degree 'driver', 5, 7 and 9 irons and a putter. That was the 5 iron off the tee. A bit long for her at the moment, yes, but certainly not adult clubs! :D

As Bob is in junior coaching mode, any tips for my 8 year old Jodie? :D

1st swing is on the 1st at the BMW champs at Wentworth

This one's a slow mo at the driving range

Main thing I noticed with the slow mo is the head movement. Starts to go back a bit far and then gets a bit high and forward at the top of the backswing.

10% cut of any of her future earnings Bob if any of your tips get her on the Ladies tour! :D :D

She could encourage her mum to re-marry...might help :D

As you say shes losing her posture a bit on the backswing.
Also have a look at her extension through the ball.
Try and encourage her to keep her left arm straight for longer before it collapses and pulls the club accross the line.
And remember she's only 8. Keep it fun :D :D

Good stuff Del, my eldest has a young guns wedge and putter for now (fairly lightweight) which i would recommend, she wont be getting anything until she learns these well.
she is pretty handy with the wedge so far, the putting isnt so hot :)
