Anyone else finding the return to golf after winter an absolute nightmare?

I'm definitely a fair weather golfer and not a fan of playing in the cold and wet so I haven't picked up a club since around November.

Weather was really nice today and I had a day off so went down the range...absolute disaster haha.

Only had 50 balls but i'd say 49 of them were bad. Nothing felt natural at all, felt like I had no power whatsoever and my shots went everywhere. Low, high, right, left, short, thinned, shanked, the lot!

Got a few society days coming up in the next couple of months and I can see them being pretty tragic.

Was putting off seeing a pro as well last year as I felt I was finally getting somewhere with my swing, now I think it could be the only hope!

What a sport aye...

For me it's quite the opposite. I played pretty much every weekend (except for two weeks in January, when the course was closed due to snowfall) all through winter, struggling with waterlogged fairways, bumpy winter greens, balls that fell out of the sky after 50 yrds, hiding under bushes, because they just did not want to stay in the cold wind any longer and all the other nasty little surprises winter golf has to offer.

Every round I play now feels like heaven to me compared to that.

No, forget the range and get out there on the course and play and enjoy the fair weather!

I've only played about 3 times since last October, but out last Saturday in good weather  and was hitting the ball really well and scored 38 points. Played with 6 and a 13 handicapper and won the day - I felt like a real bandit!

Well I did consider getting out on the course today, but after that range session I don't think I want to go anywhere near the course for the foreseeable future...have a feeling I'd be walking back to my car and chucking the clubs in my boot pretty soon after the first tee shot haha

Come on fella, get out there and smash a few balls. It's different out on the course, you know it makes sense.

I want you to play on the course at the next opportunity, and then come back on here and tell us how you got on. :p

And enjoy!

^^^ This.

Playing through the winter not only keeps your game and swing going, but makes you appreciate the summer ten times more.
