As some of you lot may know I love me bikes........and my latest bike was a lovely gsxr 1000 which I posted about here http://forums.golf-monthly.co.uk/showthread.php?52990-motorcycle-update

Now when I posted about the thou I was currently in the process of selling the bike to fund a family holiday which I had booked and paid the deposit for......

I managed to sell the bike for £2800 and the new owner was coming to collect on the 6th of may........I went to fuel the bike up for the new owner on the 5th before heading With the family to fife and I went and did this(see pics)

I couldn't believe it,lix toll is 2 miles out the village and I made the rookie mistake of wearing just my jeans and hoodie, something I never do but a mistake I will never make again.

I was heading back from the garage when I was overtaking a line of cars and whilst accelerating in 3rd gear I got into a massive tank slapper which I couldn't get out of.....I've had a few over the years and a fair few on this thou but this one was too far gone and ultimately the only result was the end result.....tbh I thought I was dead,I knew I was going down and when I did go down I immediately thought with the speed I was going and what I was wearing that I would die.

Thankfully I am still here......and I've decided golf will be the safer option for the time being.

I would jump back on the bike ASAP but for the families sake I have promised to put bikes on the back burner for just now....maybe 3 or so years down the line.

I was just saying to my wife yesterday that I have never even fancied trying a motorbike. Bloody dangerous things, even if driven well.

Glad you came out with only minor injuries but surely these pictures act as an advertisement for leaving bikes for the track.

Flippin' 'eck buddy, that's as good a gravel rash as I've seen. Did it slap when changing gear, i.e. when the weight momentarily dropped forward?? I've had a few but never one that spat me off. I always found it best to whack the throttle open when it started, to shift the weight off the bars...

Anyway, GWS.

Got rid of my Street Triple R a few months back and that's the end of my biking days too - I get the urge but Mrs Hobbit hated it when I went for a blast.

I was contemplating going back to doing track days and even had a project track bike build on the go but I can't be ersed with that so that idea has been patched.

As for the slapper usually you just power through them, most of the time they correct before you can do anything but this one had the steering going from lock to lock so violently that I reckon I had no throttle control whatsoever.i believe that when the steering was going full lock to the right the throttle would of been closing and when it went the other way then opening up......a recipe for disaster.

I can only describe it as being the same as this http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LZ1srcQMa_0

If I had my gear on I would of been fine except for the broken wrist but the gravel rash is what's giving me the most jip.

It's been nearly 4 wks and they are not healing as fast as they should be,I had a gaping hole on my right knee and right elbow which required stitches.the knee was close to needing a skin graft but she managed to close it up.

I got my bandages all changed again this morning and I've been put back on antibiotics again just to help as there is a sight infection.

Ouch. I'm terrified when I see what some folk wear on bikes (and even on scooters); shorts, t-shirts etc. But like you, I've been known to jump on for a short trip in jeans.... Never come off though, fortunately. (Excepting an unfortunate incident during my CBT!)

Get well soon!

Weird that you had a tank slapper whilst riding safely.......

Still if you've given up then that's one less idiot on the road.

Get well soon. I know what it is like to come off a bike at speed and it is no fun.

Pleased your in one piece-ish and hope your injuries heal well.
It's the one thing I hate seeing is youngsters out on peds with sod all protective gear on. It scares the living daylights out of me as I have had my turn having gravel picked out of my thigh and backside after a slide down the road at low speed.

Take care bud and drive safe.....on the fairway!:fore:

I got a serious paper cut today so I feel your pain

Get well soon Wull, couldn't look at the pictures in full screen but looks awfy sore (medical terminology)

does anyone else remember the days when you could walk into a motor bike shop having never been on a bike in your life and become the proud owner of a 250cc machine capable of doing over 100 mph,i remember being 17 and having to get my dad to sign for my loan when i bought a kawasaki z250,i lasted 200 yds before i dropped it and broke my hip,leg and dislocated my shoulder, bike got written off and i bought a car.

Yep, but I was lucky. 6 accidents in the 1st 6mths and only a broken ankle to show for it.

Your a lucky man.

I despise Motorcycles and the majority of people who ride them. They have no care or concern for anyone else on the road and seem to be surprised they routinely have near death experiences.

As the saying goes, I bet that'll leave a mark in the morning, big ouch. Good that you are in one piece though.

My auld man was a motor cycle copper for over 30yrs and told me a story of one young lad who'd been wearing jeans, had come of his bike and had got taken to hospital. My auld man had to go down to get a statement and the young fella was sitting up, much like you photos, waiting for the nurse to dope him up so she could remove the gravel from his leg.

It all started quite cordially with the nurse being polite and making small talk, my dad got his statement and all seemed well, until the nurse asked if he'd been wearing leathers, no was his reply, to which my dad heard the nurse say, this is going to hurt you more tan me, to whit, she forget about the drugs and proceeded to scrub the gravel from his leg.

You've been a very very lucky lad to come off so lightly.

Wear your leathers next time
