If there's any Single Figure Golfers out there interested in testing themselves against the Pros, whilst playing on the UK's finest Top 100 courses, this is definitely worth a look - http://theplayerstour.org.uk/tour.php?catid1=85&catid=14&active=1

Approx 18 x One Day (18 and 36 hole) tournaments throughout 2014 and it all starts on 13th March at Princes, followed by Hindhead, London Club, Royal Ashdown Forest, The Addington & The Buckinghamshire.

Any more information on this? Particularly with regards amateurs and prizes?

ie:

Can amateurs pick up monetary prizes up to the value of £500?
Is there a separate competition for the amateurs in the field?

The entry costs seem a little pricey especially considering the limted prize funds (for both am and pro). London Club for example is £210 for a pro or £115 for an amateur yet you can play that course on the same day for £70. I know there's probably fees for the running of the tour etc but and extra £45 if you're not already a 'tour member' when food isn't included is a little steep.

It's a shame cos the tour looks like it plays some good venues and would be great to play in a quality field like that, but not sure I could justify that over playing in scratch comps etc in the same areas.

For Pros £100 of every Pro Entry Fee goes into their Tournament Prize Fund.
For Ams £10 of every Am Entry Fee goes into their Tournament Sweep.

So yes, there is 2 separate competitions. Pros out first, followed by the Amateurs. Same tees, same course up.

There is a one off Amateur Membership Fee of £25 to join the tour, which includes Members Bag Tag and lots of special discounts from our Sponsors & Partners. London Club entry fee is £90 (£10 of which goes into a sweep for best scratch score).

London Club Green Fee is usually £80 (for morning tee times) so if you add on the £10 that we put into the Amateur sweep, you are paying the same amount (£90) - plus you are playing in a scratch competition, as a part of a tour, in a top quality field and alongside the Pros....for the same money you would pay to play on your own.

All players also receive free bottled mineral water, tees and energy bars at every event.

Full details on the amateur tour can be found here - http://www.theplayerstour.org.uk/tour.php?catid1=85&catid=14&active=1

So do the ams just play for the pot, depending on how many enter? Or is there a designated minimum amount.

ie In total, 3 ams enter - 1st prize = £30?

As above, a few courses Id happily have played but not at the prices. It appears £10 of the amateurs entry money goes into a gross sweep (so unless 2 hcap or better thats a tenner written off)

As for green fees, would cost me £80 (plus the £25 membership) to play Gog Magog with you. Nice enough course but I can rock up there and play for £45 (£30 after 12.30) or £20 with a member (expect theres a county card rate if you ask too).

That's right. Ams just play for their own pot, basically a £10 per man competition sweep (which is included in the entry fee).

Yup, this was the impression I got and looking at the results from last year there didn't seem to be an awful lot of amateurs playing in each event - maybe 5 or 6 at most, so there'd be no opportunity to cover your costs.

This is my main concern. If you only want to play in a couple of events, the £25 is a bit much on top of the full priced entry fees. I suspect, if you really wanted to, you could get a group of 8-12 together and maybe get £10+ discount per person (even more so if you knew a member or two) at many of the courses and have a decent day out.

I know it takes some of the organisational hassle away but we could likely organise a forum meet at somewhere like Gog Magog with a couple of 2fore1 vouchers or country cards for 8 of us at no more than £50 a head, including a tenner in the pot.

I'm not trying to slate the tour, as I really like the idea of it in principle but there's just not enough to play for to justify it - even more so, if you don't actually play with the pros. I know the prices have gone up on the Surrey Golf Tour I played on last year and the courses aren't as good, but I won £150+ worth of prizes for winning one of those events last year which cost about £40 to enter including the tour membership.

edit: just to add, on something I mentioned earlier. You could play at Princes in their open competition in May (better weather), on a Sunday (better day) and a 36 hole comp, with soup and rolls on entry, and a two course meal for £80, as opposed to £115 (with the £25 joining fee) on the SFA Tour - http://www.golfempire.co.uk/Entry-Forms/Princes-Gents-Individual-Open.htm

Like me Jimbob, I expect you're looking for events to play in but struggling to find decent opportunities? Seems the decent opens Im slightly too high for and the amateur "tours" are either not local enough or not decent value imo. Cant be easy for them to run something that will please us all mind

There wasn't an Amateur Tour last year. We just allowed a few Cat 1 Ams to take part here and there.

This year, low Cat 1 Ams will more than likely get grouped with the Pros tho, depending on ability and availability.

First and foremost it is a Pro Tour - We are simply giving Single Figure Players the opportunity to test themselves against the Pros, play in the same field, on the UKs Top 100 courses, off the same tees and with the same course set up, whilst playing in their own event.

Better to play in Pro Am's

Next one at Woburn costs £85 quid - includes Bacon Butty and coffee on arrival , two course meal when finishing and prizes worth up to £200.

I understand what your trying to do,however it seems unfair to charge the same amount.
The pros are playing for hundreds of pounds, the ams for next to nowt.
Imo I cant see that taking off on the ams side.
As others have said there are better offers out there.

Planty, if you wish to advertise this, can you please email michael_harris@ipcmedia.com.
This thread can be reopened then.

Which is great, would be a fantastic experience. But an amateur won one of the tourney's last year by 3 shots, shooting -7 and as there was only 3 amateurs in the field, would have returned a grand total of £20 profit for his troubles! The guy he beat into second took home £1000 for his whooping!
