I had my latest golf lesson today, and haven't had one since February. After all the work I put in last year, I thought a break might be good, and let me concentrate on playing golf, rather than swing thoughts.

So, ten minutes in, we are reviewing video of my 6 iron.

Nothing to change, it's fine.

What else do I want to look at? So I think that my driving could do with a quick look. Nope, that's fine too, just what we're looking for flight wise. Still got 40 minutes left.

Bunkers? It's been my recent weakness.

So down in the practice bunker we run through a few thoughts on bunker play, from various lies ranging from a simple splash out, to a totally buried lie, via a down slope, and a side slope. After 40 minutes, I'm hitting it great, low runners, little spinny ones, high flops (difficult, and will only ever be used in bounce games), fantastic.

So apparently, I can now play golf!

Good stuff. Now pass on the secret to me please on how you get out a bunker !!!!

I'd love to, but I'm sworn to secrecy. This has been handed down from olazabal, to casey, to my coach. We're talking Ryder cup secrets here. I can't just blabber on about it. The yanks might be logging in!

You know that you are junk without me on the bag! When and where?

Thursday Aug 8th....Sprowston Manor Norfolk......usual deal.......I pay your hotel and practice round day before, (Wed Aug 7th), you drive and get to keep the fetching boiler suit and gay caddy hat...... :o ....in?

Who could refuse an offer like that?

The perfect lesson is actually beating your pro gross in a playing lesson!

My go to area is always bunkers, chipping and pitching, always things to improve there!

I genuinely believe bunker play, chipping and putting is the best thing to practice, practice, practice

If your good within 100 yards and out of bunkers your scores have to come down...............surely

I don't get it Chris. Surely you would want your Pro to find you are doing something wrong as a 9 handicapper. Is he saying everything is fine and you will not improve ?

My pro believes we do better work when I come swinging well. A good lesson can often just be a check in to see that the practice is going in the right direction.

He thinks that my current swing is good enough for this season, and that we will review it and improve it again over the winter. My current swing could easily get me a lot lower, if I would only get out of it's way!
