I started this year playing off 10.4 with the ambition of reaching single figures (have came from 24.5 to 10.4 in three years) and thought it would be a formality but how I was wrong.

Throughout the year I had made the turn on 20/21 points on numerous occasions only to blow up in the back nine. Add to this a summer of the dreaded s....s it appeared I would not reach my goal. However, last week I finally made it, turned with 20 points, finished with 41 which meant a full shot reduction.

As I thought things could not get any better this Saturday I had my first hole in one, 124 yd pitching wedge to lowered green, so despite a hefty bar bill I can now forget those horrible summer months and concentrate on winning a turkey for the Xmas dinner.

Great news mate you must be chuffed. How often were you playing to get down from 24 to 10? I'm hovering around 18/20 at the moment but not playing regularly enough, was thinking single figures in the next 4 years.

Last week I partnered a newish member in a Turkey Trot (ie,the first 3 places get a voucher for the local butchers..£50,30 and 20.Partner off 7 me off 10 at three-quarters hcp.
A good round and 45 points to show for it ..we did'nt even get a packet of stuffing,46,47 and 48 being the top three scores.Hey ho.

I joined my club at the end of the 2003 season and was given a handicap of 25(which I could get nowhere near). Over the winter I played twice a week and by the beginning of the next year was playing to h cap comfortably. I took about four lessons with Kevan Whitsun - Golf Monthly top 25 coach who totally sort out my slice fromn hell. A couple of big scores including 49 points one Saturday got me down to 16 that year. It has came down steadily since then. Over the summer I play quite a lot as I am a teacher so this definately helps.

i joined my club this year in April and got a handicap of 23 and managed to get it down to 18.8 at one point but up to 19.5 then the season ended and of course i hit a good run in bounce games. I work 5 weeks on 5 weeks on in Africa so i get out up to 4 times a week when home (if i'm aloud
) but mostly twice a week. Went for my first lesson in june all the pro did was change my set up, grip and follow through then went out and shot 85 gross in the next medal. Next lesson September he worked on my release and more left shoulder rotation was beasting my 3 wood 230 yards, that was the only time it has happened since then!!

I joined my club in january and started in competitions in April, off 24, at this moment i am off 12. so, the same next year and i'll be off scratch!

I'm hitting form at the wrong time though, as my last two rounds were 78 and 74.
