Was just looking for any advice you guys can give regarding where to stay/ how to get to St As for the Open.

Everywhere in St As is pretty much booked up so where would the next best place to stay be that I could get a fairly affordable place? I will be flying into Edinburgh. And would it be better to rent a car or use public transport to get there?

Cheers!

Scotrail usually do a service to Leuchars from Edinburgh with a shuttle bus to St Andrews. Been on it myself and it saves a lot of grief with parking etc.

Dundee is cheaper, closer and more convenient for travel than Edinburgh. It really depends how much of a location snob you want to be about it.

if you rented an estate car or large saloon you could kip in it as well- dont laugh, many aspiring pro's started out doing that at tournaments.

Gary Player slept on St Andrews beach the first time he came to play the Open:eek:. Can you imagine any aspiring journeyman pro even considering anything less than a 4* hotel these days:rolleyes:

We are staying in St Andrews the first few days, and Stirling the last few. Will probably get the train to Leuchars rather than drive from Stirling.

I'd vote for Dundee too, I stay there when I go the dunhill. We stay in the central travelodge, 2 mins walk into town, a Tesco round the corner and plenty parking and is usually cheap.

RE last message and also advice required by SamCarter I am holding a few spare rooms at that Dundee Central Travelodge where some folk have dropped out of a trip. If you are not sorted feel free to post a reply.

Bit worrying you are posting this on every thread with an Open connection. I assume "having spare rooms" means you either block booked to re-sell on or you own the Travellodge. Either way it smells a tiny funny
