I hope it is a huge success, I have only played the course once but parts of it were breathtaking, I think the course will offer good viewing for the spectators and no doubt a warm welcome should be offered. I see a trip to be planned.

As long as they don't rent the place out for a huge amount of money and clear off to sunnier climes. I'd check in with them first.:D

I was at the irish open there a few years ago.

No problems parking or getting away in the traffic.

It was a sell out then but likely be even more people at the open.

There was absolutely no waiting about those days so even if there is a little traffic during the actual open if will be no different to any other big sporting event.

Happy days.

Great news for Northern Ireland and golf in general.

I think the "lack of infrastructure" thing is overstated. Both Belfast and Derry are approx an hour away and should be able to cope comfortably with the amount of visitors. The Irish Open in 2012 attracted 130,000 spectators without any issues. They're already making plans to deal with the larger crowds The Open will bring.

I know people who attended Royal St. George's in 2011 and said that if it can hold The Open then there's no reason why Royal Portrush or RCD couldn't.

Great news.

I don't understand the lack of infrastructure argument. St Andrews' infrastructure is generally abysmal and it manages perfectly fine. Big events like the Open are so much better understood and managed nowadays that I feel that criticism based on infrastructure is generally a backwards looking mentality. People should look at what can be done, not at what can't.

Terrific news for NI and long overdue.

If we can land a probe on a comet I don't see how bussing a few punters in to watch some nice golf should be a problem.
