The open 2017

Hi folks,

I am attending the open next year at royal birk dale and looking at taking the wife and little man up to one of the practice days! I was wondering if Monday there will be a few famous faces out on the course to say hello to. Also if there is normally a pro am comp in the lead up to the event as I know these are meant to be great fun too?

Wednesday seems to be a popular day where you can guarantee all the big names will be there. Enjoy yourself at Royal Birkdale it's a great Venue. I am not sure you will find all the big named players out on the Monday though.

Tuesday is a great day to go as most of the pro's will try to get a practise round in then.

A lot of pro's will only do 9 holes on the Wednesday before a major and spend a lot of time at the range or practise green (think that Big Phil doesn't play at all that day) and there are a few who don't play Monday due to travelling from the last event.

As far as I'm aware there is never a Pro-Am before the Open, think those only happen before normal Tour events.

No pro-am at the open, just practice days. Went to the Tuesday at Muirfield 2013 and it was great. Players were relaxed and a lot of them about. Crowds were big either so you got to see plenty of golf.

The Tuesday of a major is usually the best of the practice days to visit.

As others have said, Tuesday is the best of the practise days.

Thanks for all the replies looks like I'm gonna try do Tuesday. It's mainly for the Mrs and my 3yo his first comp. Me and dad are going Saturday and Sunday. Thanks again all! Keeeeep golfing!!

Had a look at the 18th at Birkdale when I was up at Hillside (next door) and got a few pics taken in front of the clubhouse. Beautiful looking course and exquisite clubhouse. You'll have a great time and Tuesday would be a good shout
