The Open 2011

I'm looking to buy tickets for a couple of days since I live near Sandwich.

Does anyone have an idea of which are the best 2 days to go? I was thinking the Thursday and Friday... the weekend might be too busy to get a good look in, I guess.

I would go tuesday/wednesday or wednesday/thursday great to go and watch them practicing.

Hi James .. the practice days are really good as the crowds are much smaller. I went on the Sunday last time and the atmosphere was fantastic and I got to see pretty well and the tension increases with the leaders coming through knowing that it's "now or never".

It can get busy on the main tournament days , but its well worth going on the Thursday annd friday, You're guaranteed to see the likes of Tom Watson etc, combine this with a practice day and you should see quite a lot of golf, which can be difficult if you go at the weekend.
I suppose it depends on the course, but I imagine Royal St Georges being very busy like the north west courses.

Maybe try and avoid Poulters group, some idiot on twitter has been threatening to kill him at the open. Could be a bit messy.

Totally agree, I ONLY go on the last practice day- as everyone playing is there- and they are more relaxed, hit more shots and less crowds, I ALWAYS spend 2 hrs at the range to soak up the rhythm and tempo they have, then the Thursday to get the 'OPEN' atmosphere and see them under pressure.

After that it's in front of the BBC High Def coverage so I miss NOTHING.

I agree you tend to see more action on practice days, can get about the course easier and the range is quieter. The four days of competition are meant to be watched with Peter Allis and a supply of tea and biscuits on the box

Am fortunate enough to be going with a member of the club on the Wednesday

He was aplogising that it wasn't the Sunday but as others have said the practice days are the best days to go.

Kill Poults? Hadn't heard that, maybe the fashion police will lock him up first - first rate guy with just the right attitude, any one who can carry off those trousers deserves a medal.

golf groupies and some serious totty, LOADS of stands in the tented village which is great fun, great food and drink places and did I mention the totty
