It's my dad's 60th next June and fancy treating him to a trip away to a decent course.

Ideally it would be within 100 miles or so, have a hotel at the course.

Also he's not the biggest fan of links courses so it kinda rules them out.

Anyone have any suggestions? As all I can seem to think of is Slaley, Rudding Park and Rockliffe which would be ideal but it's right on our doorstep so seems a bit pointless as we can play it anytime.

Close House, or any of the top Leeds courses, e.g. Moortown, Alwoodly. Ganton, or Lindrick... lots to choose from

Ganton or Alwoodley if you are heading to Yorkshire.

Notts or Sherwood Forest a bit further down.

Dukes at St Andrews and stay overnight in the town and treat him to a wander around the magical town.

Gleneagles in Perthshire.......stay overnight if you can rob a bank beforehand.;)

All these are not Links.

It's his big birthday so don't whatever you do go for your hotel and course idea as I cannot think of any that are special bar my last suggestions....yes some hotel complex courses are nice but nothing he will really remember.

Dukes at St Andrews is a good call. The town is magical. You could also get a game at Ladybank or Scotscraig.

I did consider Close House as they have the 2 courses which would be nice to play a diffrent course over the weekend.

I do want it to be one he really remembers but the only problem is there could be some of his/my friends going to so have to consider the cost for them as it may put them off.

I'll have a look at the Dukes at St Andrews as it's something i'd really like to do as well

Depending on your budget Bozza less then 100 miles is Forest pines and just over 100 miles is Woodhall Spa.

I Can highly recommend Moortown.
A group of us off here played it about 6 weeks ago. Absolutely stunning course and I can't wait to go back. I think it took us all by surprise, it was much better than we expected.
I would of thought they'd be doing some decent winter rates now.

Bozza, forest pines is a tidy parkland course 3 loops off 9 holes, however one word of warning. Bar prices are very steep!
