Hadn't seen a completely empty bunker until yesterday (was having a walk round a course under construction)

Solid concrete foundation with a herringbone drainage pattern set into it (apparently there's several different ways to construct them)

Maybe not interesting to anyone but here's a pic anyway

This is one of the reconstructed bunkers at our place before being filled with sand. The black stuff looks like tarmac, but it is a porous membrane that lets through water but not sand. It feels like thick rubber. I believe a company spray it in after drainage is installed underneath.

Wondering if this is what we're trialling out for our bunkers - as we are having one of our practice ground bunkers rebuilt with what I've heard referred to as 'astroturf'

We have linings in all our bunkers and they are a nightmare.
Made of some sort of fibre matting.
if they are not maintained properly the sand can get to shallow and you hit the lining when playing your shot.
this creates dought in your mind " will I hit the lining or not"
last week I hit the lining and the bottom of my sand wedge had so many fibres on it it looked like It had a wig on.
A couple of the lads have hurt themselves they said " it was like hitting a tree root.
