Earlier this weekend, I was over the moon. Shot my PB, finished 3rd in the monthly medal, HC cut under 18.. what more a newbie ask for..

So with the head held and surging confidence I tee-ed off.. Only to crash and burn. On the front 9, double bogied 8 holes except a Par 3 which I bogied. Stopped counting for the back 9, but managed a couple of pars, but mostly B & DB again...

What a cruel game. Now sitting with my tail between my legs.

Been there, done that and got a collection of tee shirts as proof in the wardrobe!
As I've said before, silly bloody game!

It happens. I've found there is a direct correlation between increased expectation and the inability to then put club on ball and the increase in final score. Sure someone will have the exact scientific term other than "your just crap Homer" which is taken as a given

Over confidence as well, you start swinging harder at it instead of just calming down, decision making is poor because your expecting to do something marvelous. The best thing to do is keep it simple, slow down and concentrate on swinging the club where it grounds out consistently and then take it to the ball and do the same. Stay down on it and let the club bring you up with its momentum. Don't rush and don't get annoyed, every day is different its how you deal with the day in hand and what you learn to apply in your next round.
