Ive just been invited to a conference at the end of January that's being held at The Mere, which is in Cheshire.

I 'm not sure if its worth taking my clubs with me or not as.... well its Jan so the weather is not likely to be great.

Anyone played there and whats it like. also what sort of condition can i expect at the end of January?

would it be worth taking my clubs?

Having played it a couple of months ago I wouldn't imagine for a second its a good winter course as it was soft when we played it.

I played it at the end of sept last year and it was very soft then too as LQ sai it was this year. Nice course though. Chuck the sticks in the car for whacking a few into the "mere" anyway. Floating driving range.

Will be flying to Manchester so will have to book the ticket with baggage. by the sound of it, as i though not worth it for this time of the year.

Why don't these conferences happen in the summer:(

Tbh, it's like most Parkland courses....depending on the weather leading up to your visit, it could be decent, or quite soft underfoot. It's hosted open qualifying the last few years and the back 9 in particular is a really nice stretch of holes. It drains OK so I wouldn't rule playing out.....I'd keep an eye on the weather and play it by ear. Ping me a message and i'll let you know how it's playing as I live 10 minutes from the place and have a mate who works there !

cheer's, i suppose i could always hire clubs if needed.

Patrick, unsure of how your travel plans are looking whether hiring a car or not but if you are and are taking clubs and fancy the links then if dates all fit I'd happily guest you on at Wallasey if you want. Wallasey is probably about an hour from Manchester airport.

If of interest drop me a PM.

Wallasey from Manchester airport is probably 50 minutes, outside of the rush hour, and 2 motorways are 95% of the journey.

Mere front 9 is decent but flat, the back 9 is very good though and not flat at all, not sure how it is in January though, might be worth seeing if its off matts etc or if they have any major work planned. Its well maintained in the summer though.

Martin, I'll have to let you know closer to the date as I' m a guest of an Advertising Agency and attending a conference at the same time , so will depend on what they have planned. Might be able to manage something as last time i was down, i had a meeting in the morning then my flight back to Sneckie was at 8pm.

I wouldn't be paying anyway so doesn't really matter at the end of the day.

I would just find it difficult to stay at a hotel with a golf course attached and no wonder about playing, esp if it was free.

Played there a few years ago, nice enough course and as it was towards the end of the Summer, the fairways were like carpets.
Loads of bunkers too.
If it's wet, they will be full of water (or hard packed) so it wouldn't be good fun.

If you were including Wallasey as well, well worth bringing the clubs. If Mere only at that time of year, touch and go.
