I booked an appointment with the optician's due to a dodgy left eye poor sight but good right eye. Have always used it as an excuse for missing putts to the left. I went about 4 years ago they told me then they could'nt do anything with it, but as you know golfers know best.
So i am in the chair he ask's what the problem i'm having i tell him me right eye etc etc and i am concerned that i was told they can't do anything with it and i think it is getting worse and i am concerned if i damage my left eye i would'nt be able to drive then my lose my job.
We then start the tests and then it was like one of those embarassing moments i said "their is one other concern" he stops "i play golf and i was just wondering if it would effect my putting" long pause me feeling a bit of an idiot with those big glass things on and i knew then that he knew why i was their he said " No but you can still keep using it as an excuse " and smirked. Finished up the eye test did'nt need any new glasses and it cost me £17 could have had a putting lesson for that :D

My left eye is a good deal worse than my right. I am also right eye dominant, there's about a 3 - 4 ft lateral shift at 30 ft.

When setting up for a putt I was taught the conventional thing, to set up with the ball foward, ie under the left eye. I missed a lot left.

So I've moved the ball back (possibly a bit too far at the mo'), and set up for the right eye. I'm still missing but more often short but on line.

Why I don't know but this has also had the effect of making me keep my head still 'til the ball has gone.

If you lived in Scotland the eye test would've been free and you could still afford the lesson. ;)

Went not long ago the whole experience cost me over £300 quid I could have paid for a season ticket for Allestree & Sinfin for that.Heck I could have had a five day membership at Breedon or The Brailsford for what the final bill came to for my new glasses.

Actually one of my eyes had actually improved so I needed a prescription slightly less strong. But the bad news is next time they are likely to be prescribing reading glasses too as well as distance. Apparently I don't need them yet....

Well they can bloomin' wait on those & I'm certainly not going down the very expensive varifocal route. My lenses can stay the same next time as I've got enough frames at home to open up my own branch of specsavers now.
