Going to be very careful with spoilers, last thing I want to do is ruin it for anyone before they see it, but at the same time I am keen to see if there are any other sad individuals out there that went to a midnight showing last night?

What did you make of it?

Hate to say it, but I am a little disappointed this morning. I really enjoyed the Force Awakens and Rogue One, think they were a welcome return to form after the mixed bag of the prequels, but think they have dropped the ball somewhat with this latest offering.

I enjoyed it although it didn't make any lasting 'wow' impact

it sits (as intended I guess) as a link film in a trilogy only diluted a little bit given its place within a trilogy of trilogies

These episodes are basically re-telling the same general plot outline as 4,5&6

edit: Oh and the absolute worst thing was I had to watch in 3D with no regular option available

17-year old shark loved it as a die-hard Star Wars fan. I've loved the other films (prequels don't count) - thought Rogue One was the best of them all. Thought this was utter crap. The bit when Leia got blown into space and then flew herself back to safety was the last straw. Really disappointed and would give it 1/10 for the opening sequence only.

Not sure about 1/10, might be kind and give it a 4/10.

You’re bang on about the Leia supergirl impersonation, there was an audible laugh in the cinema when they sprang that bit on us.

Think I just sat there with my mouth open, thinking WTF - very bizarre. Also, would have given them an out in terms of Episode 9 and Carrie no longer being with us.
Enjoyed Rogue One more but still enjoyed it. However, heard comments that people thought it was better than Empire - I'm assuming those people have never seen TESB.

Would have made more sense to have Leia sacrifice herself with the kamikaze light speed trick instead of her 2nd in command. That way the Resistance get their martyr and Carrie Fisher gets a good heroic send off. SImples.

Has the cast of "Big Bang Theory" joined the Forum? :D

The midnight showings on Wednesday night were a bit of an eye opener Ian. Reminded me of Big Bang, plenty of 40 year old virgins types and too many grown men dressed up and generally taking things a bit too far. My Stormtrooper gear looked great though - just kidding!

Apart from the Leia bit, fair point, I thought it was better than the last one.

I struggled with the whole cat and mouse, just out of reach chase, and the corresponding Finn storyline at the casino planet was just plain boring!

Don’t get me started on what they did to Luke - sacrilege!

I took the casino bit and the kid at the end as laying the foundations for a future storyline.

Dragged along to pictures last night. Would give it 4/10, was watchable enough but seems like it's been done before. PG rating limits badly what they can show therefore for adults it's not edgy enough.

Benicio del Toro's brief appearance was welcome if a bit irrelevant. Snoak's demise was the best part.

The critics have loved it, or the ones that I've seen on the various media outlets have, I'll wait till March next year and watch it on Sky movies.

Rotten Tomatoes has the critics rating at 93%, while the Audience rating is sitting at 56%. Likewise Metacritic has the Audience rating down at 4.9/10, while the critics are rating it at 86/100.

Something clearly not adding up, but I certainly wouldnt believe everything I read from the critics, many of whom I guess are slightly wary of going against Disney (aka the Empire!)

Agree with Benicio Del Toro, thought he was good if a little underused.

Not sure about killing off Snoke, but the subsequent scrap in the throne room was great and one of the few highlights for me.

You're wrong it was awesome! Perfect fit to the force awakens! It fits perfect in the star wars story - it wasn't predictable - I enjoyed that aspect - I thought something was going to happen then the opposite happened! Perfect balance of good vs evil!

I thought it was very good with a number of surprises. Can see the whole 'the force is in everyone and not just a few' thing becoming an issue in the next one. All the hype about Rey's family to find they were just ordinary junkers (assuming that is true) and she is nobody special, then the boy at the end showing force powers. Guessing in episode 9 a whole army of ordinary 'jedi' will form the bulk of the resistance under the guidance of Rey.

Equally like the way that they got rid of Snoke with no explanation or backstory. Clearly the story here is the development of Kylo Ren rather than the development of Snoke as a character. Pretty much the same happened in Star Wars, Tarkin was the senior character in the Empire but after he was killed off Vader shone.
