I was faced with this decision when my job moved to Newark, and I live in Lincoln - do I join Newark which is 2 miles down the road from work, (25 mins from home), or join a club close to home, for weekends etc.

I chose Newark, as I love practicing and can go for an hour on my way home, and after work golf in the summer is a pure joy.

But I now have to travel down there at weekends and days off, and I now find myself popping into to work to see how my guys are!

Are the courses the same quality/condition? . Is the membership welcoming at both clubs? Are the competitions to your liking? Cluhouse facilities decent ? If they are similar at both, then i'd choose whichever you believe will allow you to play most golf.

Good luck

Well totally understand why you would join Newark as Carholme and Canwick are OK and that's it.
Where else did you look at?

When i worked in the Cairngorms, i was a member at a course close to my work, great in the summer after work or lunchtime. could not play at all in winter or at weekends.

the solution for me was having two clubs (well 3 actually) not an option for some i know, does this place not have a 5 day membership?

I went with the near work for 2 years until moving, the summer nights and early finishes led to a lot more Golf, slight pain in the arse at weekends, but midweek made up for it😃

used to be a member at Holme Hall Scunthorpe - Lincoln lacks a premium course imo, and none are upto the standard of Newark - the course itself is great at Newark, and the clubhouse and food are good as well - plus the members are very welcoming.
I've kinda made my mind up to join Newark, and i'll play at weekends there when I can, plus I'll play at Forrest Pines a few times, which is nice, and Gainsboro. I also want to play Seacroft in the new year, and Woodhall again - what other courses around here are worth a look? Rob

Rob,

Do you work in Newark?

yeah, at Knowhow.
I can see why Newark is the easy option then, easy to get to the course after work and at least you will use the club.

If you live in Lincoln and work in Newark then to me Newark is the obvious choice unless you want to travel further then its either Torksey or here at Woodhall.

It's always a hard question but be thankful if you have a choice.

Sometimes other factors win out.

Everyone's case is different, I would chose differently depending on house, work and course locations factoring in cost, quality, membership and facilities.

I've just had the exact same problem. I went for course closer to home as we have just as 2nd child and obviously very tying.

If I was you I would stop at Newark I've heard good stories about it

I've did both and my experience has been that close to home was far better for me but appreciate others circumstances can dictate what they do. In my case but he courses and clubs had pro's and cons and neither outweighed the other that way but for me the clincher in moving closer to home was the ease of medal day, I can be there now in around 2 or 3 mins where previously it was 25-30 mins depending on traffic
