A weird thing happened to me on the weekend. I played a relaxed private round with my mum. On the 12th hole I decided to not aim my approach into the green directly at the flag, because that would have meant a long carry over water, but to aim left at the edge of the green, which should have taken the water mostly out of play. But things rarely go smooth in golf and I pushed it to the right. It was a good hit, otherwise, and I still hoped it would make it and land dry, but my mum and I both saw a huge splash when it hit the water about a yard short of the bank. So far so good, I dropped another ball closer to the edge of the water and hit it on.
When we arrived on the other side, my mum pointed out a ball that was innocently lying in the grass, about a yard or two from the water's edge. I went to have a look and it was my first ball, the one that we both had seen splashing. It was completely dry as well, so I guess it can't have skimmed either (which is physically very unlikely anyway, because I hit it high and it would have been too steep for that). I really have no explanation for it, except that some mud must have stuck to it and then fell down and hit the water, making us both think it fell in.
On the 15th I had a very similar shot, again water in front of the green. This time I misshit it and caught it a bit heavy, but the sturdy little ball just made it, hit the wooden skirting on the other side and bounced onto the grass. It is a crappy and pretty worn old Pinnacle Gold, but it looks like this specific ball just does not want to go into the water :mmm:
