Anyone played it and what's it like?

Just that I'm down that way at the end of May for Wentworth and I noticed they take 2 for 1 vouchers so we can get a round for £80.

Still a fair chunk of money but a lot less than the £160 green fee they normally charge.

So would it be worth it?

I think Murph's house backs onto it and he's played it a few times.
Played the front 9 on the GM PowerPlay event and it's nice - wasn't blown away by it but it's good.
For me, it's not worth the normal Green Fee but on a deal it should be a good day.

Yeah I'd be hard pushed to pay over £100 for any course but for £80 while we are down in that area I was thinking it would be worth a treat for £80.

The quality of the tees, fairways and greens are superb, you would be hard pushed to find better and its not too diificult and you can select various tees depending how long you want the course to be.

The service is excellent, free balls on the range, nice bag tag, free tees and course guide.

I definitely think its worth £80.

Apparently very nice, manicured course with ultra fast greens.

But ultra expensive in the clubhouse, so be careful.

Probably worth the visit at that price.

Yes, really good top american style service, course in good condition always, for £80 you will be having a bargain

I played it in the GM Powerplay event. The level of service and the conditioning of the course were superb but I just wasn't endeared to the layout. There wasn't any hole on the front nine that made me go "WOW" although each were a good test in their own right. I think for £80 though it is good value for money and its worth playing at that price

I think The Grove is a pretty good course with great facilities and a layout that is well designed and interesting but which may only really reach its peak when all the young trees have grown up and some of the holes get a bit more definition as a result.

I love the place. The more I play it, the better the layout gets.

On the power play event, a lot of the tees were shoved forwards, which took some of the teeth out of it. Play it off the tips, and it is a super course. The fourth is nothing from 130 yards. A dib with a wedge over the stream. Play it from the back, 200 yards ish, over the stream, proper hole. Ditto for the stroke index 1 third. A real test of golf off the black tees.

The two for one is a good deal. Apart from the cost, I can't fault the place. Well, if pushed they could allocate more parking for the golf course.

From what i have seen it does look really nice and seems like a good deal for £80.

How forgiving is it? Just worried about forking out that much money and not enjoying if my game is a bit off.

It's quite fair. The rough isn't bad, but they have a rule (not within the rules) of lost ball, drop out at 90 degrees, and keep it moving. Not usually an issue. I rarely lose a ball round there. What you see is what you get. You will like it. Give it a go. Really. It's a nice course. You won't play off a fairway like this any where else. It's like hitting off a Carpet. The ball is gagging for it.

Go off the blacks, (harder test of golf), and the tees are awesome. No one will have played off there for months. They are like hey were laid yesterday.

I understand it's a really good/great course..My son has played it and loved it..till he got to the 5th..Hit his drive. straight down the middle..turned to walk off the tee, slipped and broke his leg..Didn't play again for 6 months..But don't let this put you off.....:-)

I would agree with all the positive comments. Look out for the Tiger Woods markers on one of the par fives, can't be sure but it was when he birdied or eagled it on successive days. When we played the England footie squad was there as it is their home hotel for Wembley. Saw a few of the players in their buggies but all I got was a photo of the team coach! No, not Capello, the one with lots of wheels!

I played the first nine holes last year in the GM powerplay event. It's a very nice course and the service is second to none.
Worth £160 a round - no.
Worth £80 a round - to me, no - but, if you've got the cash, get involved.

Eagled! I was there on the 1st day and watched Tiger do it. He hit about 30 yards off the tee past Darren Clarke. a 3 wood from deep rough, a monster hit onto the green - I didn't see the putt drop due to the size of the crowd but the noise told us it was in!
