The great Belfry weekend!!
hi all, as you all know already i went to the Belfry this weekend for my 30th. 15 of us went in total, 6 golfers plus the other halfs.
I played 2 rounds on the Brazabon with one of my mates (whilst the others played the Derby and then the PGA) and have to give it top marks. We were very nervous going into the weekend, being relative newbies to golf, but were pleased to find we tee'd off on the 13th on both days and barely saw another person for our entire round
the greens were like nothing i've seen before, lightning quick and didn't turn nearly as much as the slopes suggested whilst the fairways were wet but still in great nick. only real problem we had was finding our balls when we hit them into the rough as they were plugging every time!
I shot a 89 which amazed me and hit a lot of wonderful drives with the new R7 limited which has improved my game no end. My partner shot a 96 so all in all we were delighted come 3pm on saturday.... Unfortunetly we then hit the bar for the rest of the day so our second round on the sunday was one to forget! probably fortunate that matt lost our scorecard somewhere on the course after 4 holes!! but this relaxed us and we forgot the cautionary approach of day 1 and went for the big shots.and yes, i did try to hit the green on the 10th - failing miserably!! lol
all in all a fantastic weekend made all the more enjoyable by the missus who upgraded our room to a suite (probably used by a number of top players during the ryder cups).
for the price it was also great value for money with a decent dinner buffet included for a cost of £140 per night, the missus also loved her spa treatments so looks like the lads will be enjoying many more golfing weekends away with the other halfs in tow
on a final note - avoid the Derby and PGA courses at this time of year. the other lads were not impressed with these which were waterlogged and VERY busy.
