Well, just got my handicap from the English Golf Union and they've given me...... 20. B@stards!! That's my chance of ever winning anything up the swannee.

Actually quite chuffed - I've always claimed 26 but thought I might be given 23, but to get three shots off that is well pleasing. Perhaps it's as well I didn't put in the good card . I guess I have to try to live up to it now......

Good for you mate, I am going for mine soon. I am getting in as much practise as possible before my first card. 20 is a decent score. How long you been playing?

Thats the challenge of this stupid game, playing to and reducing your handicap. Its good that you have got such a good one to start. See it as a challenge and not a hurdle.

htl: I've been playing quite a while (10 years or so?) - but never regular enough to get any better. Only play about once a month with the odd flurry of rounds. This year though, I decided it was time to take things more "seriously" - so been having plenty lessons and practice.

A challenge it certainly will be - but my aim for the year was to get below 18 so it's a damn good start. Next step now I've got the EGU h/c is to do the next bit to get to 18 - and to find a club as well.

Coming down 2, to 18, by the seasons end is a good target from there.

Just got the notice that I've been cut to 19...

Ok, the season's pretty much done (for me at least) and it's not 18 - but boy, the one shot difference between a h/c starting with a 1 instead of a 2 don't half feel good. (HID: "So losing a shot is good then, is it?" "Yes dear. No, it doesn't mean you're going backwards. No, losing a stroke isn't careless. Hell, where's the laptop, I know where someone will understand...")
