About to watch the Germans show how football should be played. As an Englishman I honestly admire them, they are so technically gifted and far superior to our overrated so called internationals. It's no surprise that they always succeed as time and time again they produce true quality footballers.
Apart from their engineering qualities, yes I drive a German car, they're also very good at sport.

Are you referring to the moronic chant of 2 world wars and 1 World Cup. If so, oh how clever!

That's the one! Nothing to do with World Cups - Germany is streets ahead on those! And could well be a serious contender for another win!

Not my favourite style of Football - even with my German heritage - but fairly effective.

And my last 3 cars were all German (2 Audis and a Beemer). Built far more solidly than the previous English one (Rover). That's probably more to do with the distances, speeds in Germany. And better industrial relations imo!

Well sing it as much as you want cause we'll never have another claim over them. They've won 3 world cups to our 1 from as recent as 48 years ago ! The Germans are mentally tougher when it comes to sport as well so I can see them winning more world cups when all we can sing is " 2 world wars and 1 World Cup do dah". I know whose got the last laugh and it ain't the thick lager louts.

:D:cheers:

I'm rather surprised, though maybe I shouldn't be, that any proper sportsman from England would take that attitude!

You are actually clearly demonstrating the 'we are losers'/lack of mental toughness attitude that you seem to be critical of! I don't think I'd want you on my team! No backbone! And the traditional stereotype of the English approach is definitely of 'having a backbone', even if the result is too often that of 'plucky loser'!

I suggest you read a bit of Henry V's St Crispian Day speech (and why it was made), consider Drake's approach or that of Churchill!

I'm not English, so don't need to support them, though I wish them well, and it's no big deal to me if they do lose. But your 'they're better' attitude is wrong imo - and won't help your golf results either!

Pretty sad to indite England as winning two world wars. What about the contributions from all the regiments made up from the rest of Britain and their allies abroad. Pretty crass and unnecessary IMO. Lets keep it to the sport and not tarnish the memories of the fallen

England is still 2-0 in the 'big match'!

As a proud Scot, but in this instance I could be a proud Welshman/Irishman/Canadian/Pole(yes Pole)/American/Gurka and I could carry on .... you are so ignorant I am at a loss for words to express my feelings BUT no wonder we are ABE supporters.

You are sick.

It didn't seem appropriate at the time. On reflection 'with some help' might have been a good addendum!

You are showing some ignorance/assumption yourself btw. We Southern Hemisphere folk were involved too! Gallipoli wasn't Churchill's 'greatest triumph'! My father and most of my uncles were involved - one even under-age!

And I go past the Polish War Memorial quite frequently! It's Gurkha btw!

Bad times all round.

Little known fact is that the British lost three times the amount of soldiers than the ANZAC forces there. I bet if you asked most folk which allied force took the biggest casualties most would say it was the ANZACS.

' And I could carry on'...... embraces all the brave souls who put their shoulder to the wheel with the English playing their part but to infer they did it on their own is down right disrespectful!!

And yes my lapse in spelling is correct but does not undermine the point made!!

Back to the thread.Germany look good. But Holland,France and a couple of central/south American sides are too.Great World Cup for the neutral. Will be heart breaks along the way.

Well I chose Belgium and they are starting to look good.

My grandchildren drew Brazil and Costa Rica in the hotel sweep so they are also happy bunnies.

Not experienced one that hasn't been!

Could well come down to who gets into 'foul trouble' with Yellow Cards.

Ghana certainly surprised Germany, who seemed a little, ungermanicly, flustered at times.

@Doon Brazil haven't been convincing!

Another little known fact.
First air raid of WW2 was on the Forth Bridge.

Perhaps not! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/history/...War-2-First-air-raid-on-England-repelled.html
