No not Hobbit on his new course.

The train, saw this earlier on today and never really showed any interest. Anyway it's on the BBC it looks a beast. Looks like the age of steam is back.

currently in a "stealth mode" paint job but soon to be sprayed it's correct colours.

semi interesting fact.
when the flying Scotsman made its record breaking run from Edinburgh to London of 392 miles in 1932, a time of 7 hrs and 27 mins. It did the running using coal from the Barnsley seam mined at Harworth Colliery. Where I used to work.

I mentioned the above fact to the wife's Grandad who drove steam engines during the war. He says, "ahhh, if they had used good stuff ( coal) from Crowny (Mansfield Colliery), they would of broke 7 hours".

I am going on a train pulled by it tomorrow on the East Lancashire Railway.

It's got to get ?100 miles in before its "road worthy". Get yer lippy on because the flask carrying train spotters will be out in force 😁

Awful weather up here Louise but how was your trip on The Flying Scotsman?
Better than trying to play golf as I did.

It was good day Dewsweeper, there was a delay of about a hour due to the backup engine having problems but once it arrived it was incident free. As Tashy suggested there were lots of spotters along the route despite the rotten weather.
I bet Bury station has never been so busy either.
We also got interviewed by Robson Green who was there filming for a documentary on the renovation of the Flying Scotsman.

Will we see you on Tv after your interview?
I must find out what the wing like additions to the front of the locomotive are called and what purpose they perform.
Dewsweeper

They are smoke deflectors.
Having googled images of this famous locomotive the deflectors have not always been fitted.
Dewsweeper

The smoke deflectors were added when BR took over the engine.

They were interviewing a lot of people, so the chances of me being included is slim to none.

Did read a piece somewhere that beacause of the new modifications to the engine some boxes/ plates have been designed to hide them.
