Went out for a round today after getting away from work early.

Was following a three ball round who chose to let me through on our 4th a long par 3 (today played off forward winter tees) I would of preferred it to be further back today to allow me to use a wood as my iron play of late has been shoddy at best.

So as they stood aside I struck a dreadful topped 6 iron 100 yards straight into a bush beside a hazard where the ball decided to drop back straight into the hazard.

I took a drop and pulled my wedge into the rough to the left of the green.

The gents were slowly chipping onto the green as I approached the decided to let me chip on to putt and go on about my way, I have an awful lie but manage to bump the ball out and wouldn't you know it the ball trundles across the green and straight in.

Anyone else dread being let through as you always make yourself a complete fool or have you manage a hole in one when being let through.

There's normally a curse on being let through! Though, occasionally, something miraculous happens. Seems you encountered both!

Had an eagle being let through last week. Fairly short par 4. Drove it onto the fringe, walked up through the 4 ball to knock in the putt. Nice little round of applause and off to the next tee.

It's almost inevitable. The pressure of trying to get through quickly and playing faster than normal is a recipe for disaster and my my wonky game doesn't need much help at times. At lest you finished in a bit of glory and got away and carried on. The biggest one for me is getting through, having the next hole to yourself and hitting a nightmare drive, having to spend ages looking as they stand on the tee. Do you let them back through, carry on searching or put another down and rush on down the hole

There's always good places and bad places on a course where you want / dont want to be let through! It often works out that its one of the bad places where you get the call though!

Having said that, i was let through once where i stiffed a 6 iron to a couple of feet on a par 3 after being let through. Missed the putt though!

I played on Sunday and didn't have to play through anyone, but worse, there was a pro giving a lesson on the par 4 2nd I was playing, about 100 yards from the hole. The green was littered with balls when I got up there, and it ruined the hole for me. I played an iron off the tee because they didn't move out of the fairway and I had images of pinging my driver straight at them, then felt the eyes burning into my back and I ended up topping my 2nd shot into a greenside bunker. After finding my ball in the bunker amongst the others I didn't take nearly enough sand and hit the ball 50 yards over the other side of the green. Walked to my ball and picked up after that.

It's my problem really but I did have to give myself a moment on the 3rd tee to calm down, before trying to smack the cover off it and slicing OOB..

Had a similar one where the pro was giving a playing lesson and cutting holes one evening, i promptly put my tee shot into a bunker on a par then then in getting out went straight into another.

Coming to think of it I have seen Alan (our pro) on the course twice and played rubbish each time. Perhaps he has a special glare to sell more lessons

usually its likely to lead to a duff shot or two.....

though I did get my only hole in one being allowed to play through.... they were on tee and it was nice to have an audience.....

Yep! Getting let through is a very mixed blessing. Relief if you're following the Wrecking Crew (see PG Wodehouse for the reference) that you might just get in before nightfall, but as others have said, it can often go horribly pear shaped for you.

We have a place on our course (17th tee) where if you're unlucky with timing people coming up to the 13th green, which is adjacent, will often stand aside on the hill below but quite obviously there and watch you take your tee shot.

Our 17 is 175 yards off the whites and at a ludicrous SI 16 is a pig. You'd rip someone's arm off offering you a three in any comp. So you stand there long iron in hand, or hybrid if it's windy, and all you can think is "Why me? Can't you all just sod off and leave me to play this shot without the jeffing gallery?" :mmm:
