The Dorset Golf Resort - any reviews?

what time of year ?

It's top value in the summer, stay in the lodges. The only negative is that you either make your own entertainment or venture into Swanage or Weymouth :o!!!

June time. We're happy to make our own entertainment - do the lodges have terraces / gardens with enough space for a few men and a BBQ?

Their website guff does not give me much confidence.

Seemingly Hawtree redesigned Troon Golf for Trump.

Other than that The Hawtrees were/are great course designers so I would imagine the course is good.

Think you will find it was Trump International in the NE rather than Troon.

He did also do the redesign of certain holes at Birkdale.

Lodges are great. We were there in August, lodge had a sauna (awesome after a day on the course) stocked up the fridge with beers and snacks. Lodge had a decking area around the edges, and there is a specific BBQ zone just beside the lodges too.

Why can't I get Brokeback Mountain out of my head after reading this thread? :o

We have just booked up for a 3 night stay in July, looks nice.

Does the club house stay open late in the evening for drinks or should I load the van up and stock the Lodge with ale ?

Played there loads over the years. Main course is modern with a few water hazards that are very much in play. Greens are massive but have always been in excellent condition when I have played during the 'proper' golfing season. A fairly flat terrain overall with no massive hills to negotiate. Main course can be a slog from the blue tees at over 7000 yards (I think) but is fairly easy going from the tee of the day. They have a nine hole course too but haven't played that since 1988 so it has probably changed a bit now. From what I do remember it was very tight in amongst the rhododendron trees.

I played there. Quite enjoyed it. Lodges were nice too.

Easy course though. 5 under for 9 holes as I recall!
