Whats the difference between using a 9 Wood and a rescue club?
I hit them both the same distance but get the mick taken out of me from friends for using it compared to their hybrid/utility/rescue clubs or whatever they are calling it on the day.

htl - GM's equipment editor here.

In many ways you're right - what is the difference? The great thing about the utility club revolution is this new club category has persuaded a lot more golfers to put much more playable clubs in the bag - golfers who should certainly have been using 7, 9 and 11-woods in preference to their longer irons.

As you imply, 9 and 11-woods had/have a bit of a "seniors/ladies" stigma borne out of misplaced machismo, but things are definitely changing

In terms of differences, although the two types of club are similar, there are some - most signficantly in terms of shaft length. Woods typically have longer clubs than utilities which means many golfers may well find them just that little bit more controllable.

Hope this helps

Just realised in my last thread that I have got it wrong and am sadly no longer able to edit it.

It should of course say that because woods typically have longer shafts, many golfers will perhaps find utilities that little bit easier to control

Sorry for the confusion!!
