The dangers of practicing

So I'm using one of the out door nets to do a bit of swing work. Normally I use the indoor ones, but it's a beautiful day, and I figure I can intersperse my practice with some bunker work, and short game stuff.

So I have a few slo mo practice swings, and then figure I'll have a belt at it or real.

Shanked the heck out of it.

It pings off the scaffolding framework, misses my head by inches and disappears behind me. I spin round to see where it went, moving like Neo from the matrix, only to see it hit a tree, centre stump, and come straight back at me, at a zillion miles an hour. This time it went the other side of my head.

I lost a Bit of confidence after that.

Practicing's so over-rated....

Had a similar thing happen to me at a Pro event at The Belfry
James Kingston hits driver off the tee, hits trees on right side, ball rockets past my left ear (I'm on the left side), hits scoreboard and rockets past my right ear....

I know how you feel Chris!

There's something about practice nets that always make me shank it. I've no idea why so I just stay well away from them, The last thing I want before going out for a round/comp is having my confidence shattered by the shanks.

Did some thing similar at the driving range, range was marked out for the 60 60 stuff, there was a small marker about 20yds out, but as I stood at address behind me, took my swing and the ball came right off the heel, hit the marker which acted like a trampoline and sent the ball back towards the bays.

It entered the bays two down from where I was, missing the guy who had just bent over to tee up a new ball, hit the inside of the range, made one hell of a clatter off the corrugated wall and ricocheted back out onto the range, passing the guy in the next bay up.

Two guys looked a little shaky as I put up my hand and said my bad, sorry guys, both then waited and watched as I took my next shot before they settled back into their practice.

Those short 60 60 targets are death traps. I've knifed some pitches and chips warming up before and they pinged off the target back towards me considerably quicker than it left. It has happened on a course. Playing a par three off the yellows at a society day a mate thinned his tee shot. It hit the women's concrete marker ahead, and came straight back and flew past at head height and ended up across the previous holes fairway and he was playing two about 180 yards away from where he started.

Now where are we suppose to be standing when our FC plays to accommodate this scenario?

I was at the driving range the other day and was disturbed by an almighty clatter from two bays down. Looked over to see a man holding a headless driver and looking not all that chuffed with the situation.

Me and simmb were playing down in Asburnham Golf Club and he did exactly the same in the net. He hit a 9 iron which cannoned off the horizontal scaffolding pole, just missed his head, and ended up 40 yds behind him.
He does have a bit of form though, using the simulator at Cottrell Park he hit a LW straight into the wall above the screen and it came back and sparked him straight on the noggin. I don't know which hurt most, his head, or my sides from laughing.
