the dangers of letting someone play through

Wow that's horrific. I have never actually asked if I can play through, as I do play on my own a lot (loser) but a simple 'no' would suffice. If I am catching a group up, and there is nobody close behind, I will slow down to keep a gap anyway.

Do many people here ever ask to play though, I have been invited to many times, and absolutely love topping in 50 yards when I do!

I will make it clear that I would like to play through by trying to get onto the next tee as they finish teeing off, so they can see that they are clearly holding a group up behind. But asking someone I think is rude.

if i am playing on my own and i catch the group in front, i will chip a few balls round the green or play 2/3 approach irons. 9/10 times you get waved through. you still get the odd group who have no idea of, lets not even call it good, but simple golf etiquette.

Whoo! 'Fairway rage' Mmm? Got quite a ring to it.
But seriously, it is a problem. In a recent friendly we were held up by an elderly 4 ball, eventually they were browbeaten into letting us (two ball) through. They refused, when asked, to allow the next following three ball through! As we finished the 18th they were three holes behind us.:ooo:
It really is down to etiquette.
