This year, 'I will have my revenge, in this life or the next', on our 12th hole.

My record here is abysmal, and over 52 Rounds of Competetive golf, I have scored 1 Birdie, 7 Pars, 31 Bogey's, and 12 Double's or worse !

Its a tough Par3, .....plays 199 off the Whites, and as you can see, is narrow and heavily mounded around it, so miss it left or right, and its a tough up & down, hence my scores.
I have always usually played a long iron, a 3 or 4iron, and as everyone knows, these are difficut to hit accurately/reliably !
A strong wind against and things can go horribly wrong .

However, the next thing up that I carry is a 4Wood, but as this goes 230+, is too much club.
I do have a 5W, which I dont generally carry, but maybe I should, altho that is perhaps slightly too long too.

I hate the look of Rescue/Utilities etc, so I'm thinking.....what Club should I look at carrying purely to get me to the damned centre of green ??

7 Wood ?

From Tee: (anything right of the Bush on right leaves you in a deep hollow and unable to see the pin let alone the green !

Beautiful hole though hu!!

I have an issue with our 5th...damn 5th!

Must be something about the 12th, ours is pretty horrific aswell. 576yrd par 5 dogleg uphill, you normally have a crosswind from left to right on the drive then the second shot has out of bounds to the left and gorse bushes all the way up the right. Theres been many a double figure score made on here.

Yours looks a nice hole for the visitor mind you ;)

Looks a beaut.

I have a similar hole at my club. The 11th.

I've yet to par it. I drove the green once (it's a short par four)...Still managed to 4 putt from less than 30 feet!

Doesn't look too bad to me. The ampitheatre effect would bounce the ball nicely into the middle of the green, so it must play wider than it looks. Just made for a nice(?) hybrid or a solid 4i. Can't see the problem.

Different strategy, play to the front edge with a 5i, and then have a simple pitch up the green?

Murph - 'Looks' easy I agree. Sadly my stats tell a different story.

SB : Good question......I never 'choke down' on it.......will give that a try.

I would go with Murph, and play a iron short then chip on,if its a tough par three then the index must be quite low, therefore you should have a shot on it,so play it as a short par 4,if you make 3 happy days,if not a 4 is not to bad.....

I think you might want to try and get over the hybrid fear and give some of the latest ones a go. A really versatile club and for me the ideal one off the whits if I was playing that 12th. Other than that I guess gripping down on the 4 wood is the only other answer. Really pretty hole though

Feel for you Chris - my nemesis is our 3rd, par 4 dog leg left SI 3 but in most everyone's opinion the toughest hole on the course, especailly coming so early in the round.

Made a fair bit easier thanks to the gales of the Autumn taking a couple of trees out of the equation - still a bad mental picture for me when stood over my 2nd shot.

That looks a gorgeous par 3 I have to agree!

I have 2 cunning plans, but both have already been mentioned.

1. 3/4 swing with a 4 wood. My full 4 wood goes 220-230, but a slightly shorter 'cutty' swing goes about 200. I only know that because I tried it a couple of weeks ago without knowing what would happen and it worked a treat.

2. Easiest way to improve your scores on that hole but I don't think I could make myself do it. 5 or 6 iron to leave a 20-30yd pitch. Can't see you scoring more than 4 doing that (if the target short for the iron is wide enough) and sometimes you'll save your 3.

Have to say that's what I would do in your boots - although I'd use a hybrid.

So you'd consider a Gentleman's Persuader but not a hybrid?
Chris - wash your mouth out!!!! :D

Rather than get the grief associated with a 7 wood, I bought a Benross '5 wood max' 21 degree and perfect for our par 3 7th of the shorter winter tee.

Or since you have a 910 driver, you could get the 910 5 wood and depending on the wind that day adjust the loft to give you more or less distance :D
It could be a 20.5° wood without anyone knowing (sshhhhh)

(I know you love your 4 wood though so not sure if it's such a good idea)

Region3; I do love my 4W, and I also have a WarBird 5W too, loitering in the garage somewhere, - only changed to the 4 to gain the extra yardage for our Par4 230yd 2nd. May try both with a 3/4 swing and see what success they bring.
However, you're right, I see that Titleist also do a 910H hybrid thingy.......hmmmmmm

Imurg: This is a family forum, and you're talking about a 'Gentlemans Persuader' ?!?! Sounds like something the younger readers shouldnt reading........and you're telling me to wash my mouth out ?!?!

I know it would be easy to get a safe 4 all the time, 2 Wedges and 2 putts would do that, but I have far too many 4's on here already, really need to start scoring 3 far more often, hence the search/analysis for something which will get me on the dancefloor more reliably.
