The D Plane?

D plane explains the reasons why a golf ball turns in flight. It's not necessary to understand it but if you do it clarifies the subject and dismisses some of the incorrect information that has been put out in the past.

Totally agree!

With Launch Mons like Trackman, Flightscope and GC2, the actual numbers of what is happening through impact are available - rather than simply the coach making an educated guess of what is happening from the ball flight. Trackman supposedly 'discovered' the 'new' ball flight laws even though they had been published in 1967/68 in UK (by Cochrane & Stobbs)!

D-Plane dates back to an early 90's - also before the above LMs - and a book called 'The Physics of Golf' by Jorgenson. Plenty of YouTube stuff on it, some even quite good! I like the Hula Hoop model.

It certainly helped me avoid hitting the tree so often (that Faldo and even Rose would have me aim at and swing to the right of!) on the 16th of an old club that I used to end up blocked by very often. Shame I couldn't seem to apply it to the Drive that stuck it there though!

Not seen anyone teach it locally and to be honest it's not really something I need to worry about. I will stick to the Plane Truth and continue my journey towards single figures in blind ignorance

i know the theory, was really looking for someone else who is being taught using it.

I have seen Greg Brodie at Foxhills, who coaches using Track Man and D plane. The stats were astonishing but the change in ball flight and strike were shocking. I'm really struggling with aiming so far left tho. I'm worried about heading down a blind alley.

Why are you aiming so far left. Are you trying to fade or slice the ball, or are you a lefty?

Surely that's something you should be discussing with your coach! Neither Trackman nor D-Plane are 'methods' - and neither is 'The Plane Truth', that Homer refers to, either. Trackman is a tool, in the same way that a Video is, and it provides the measurements of what your swing is doing.

Bear in mind that if your coach has stated that you should feel as if you are aiming left, then it's quite possible that you have gone past the optimum point - and are indeed now aiming too far left. That certainly happened to me when my coach flattened my swing - I kept the 'feeling' of being flatter and went too far! A quick email/phone call to him might be the best idea.

A few questions that might help.
What was your initial ball flight? What was the cause? What exactly is he trying to achieve? Why? What has he changed? And what is your current ball flight?
