The Cricket Thread

I was lucky enough to spend two years there in the late 80’s - we had Mark Lathwell going through a few others that hung around the county scene- great place to play sport

I think the best bit of cricket I ever saw at the Weston festival was a young Mark Lathwell hooking the great Malcolm Marshall (RIP) for two sixes in a row. It was great because don’t think Marshall was too impressed at a kid depositing him in the stand, so the 2nd bouncer was about 10 mph quicker than the first one 🤣.

Weston festival - that’s going back a few years , county game and then a Sunday league game , used to love playing the week after , wicket was great to play on

With Bethell’s injury, suddenly a space for Rew opens up in the middle order, and he promptly hits a scintillating match winning 93 off 48 to show that, as well as all the crafted Champo tons (many rescuing a collapse - should be a useful skill when playing for England…), he can Bazball with the best of them.

Not sure if he can be at 3 though but will hopefully get a chance

Talented as Rew may be, there is a huge difference between T20 (and fairly low level T20 compared to IPL) and Test cricket. Let him get big scores in county championship and don’t rush him in yet.

Um. He’s more than done that. To put into context what level he’s at, at his age only Don Bradman and Sachin Tendulkar had scored more first class hundreds than he has already (and you might like to consider that achievement in the context of how much greater volume of 1st class matches were played in previous eras compared to today). This is a generational talent, not a decent county player having a good year.

Speculation was that he wasn’t there already because his Championship batting is in a classic accumulation style rather than Bazball bashing. With his recent 20/20 success he’s showing he can do it all.

And there is every chance his brother might be better - believe he is sharper behind the stumps

Professional win but they don’t look like world beaters without Nat or Danni W-H.
India will be a tougher test, might go to the County Ground on Saturday.
Totally agree. I don’t think Dunkley will make the 1st choice team and not liking Capsey as opener. Bouchier seems to slow for this format. I have tickets at Southampton for England Ireland and New Zealand against a qualifier double header and also an Australia game

Dunkley and Capsey fail again as an opening pair. I think DWH has to come back on Saturday with Jones at the top. If they going to play Capsey then in at 5. Dunkley to put on the high viz carrying the water bottles. Drop knight when Sciver-Brunt returns
