I've been reading about the guy who asssulted his wife with a cricket bat but avoided prison when he was sentenced.

Turns out he lied about being a professional cricketer so was recalled to court and given a custodial sentence.

I'm a bit bemused by this story, what f'in difference does it make? Either your offence deserves the jail or it doesn't! Surely?

Had the same thoughts as I read it at lunchtime today. He should have been locked up after the first hearing. 18 months is far too lenient for him. It was an aggravated assault with the cricket bat and he also poured bleach down her throat.

I can only assume that a professional player is more likely to make a solid contact and therefore inflict worse injuries.

And stop calling me Shirley

I remember finding this case very odd when it was reported in the first place - glad to hear he's now behind bars where he should have been all along.

It would come down to the weapon being freely available or premeditated i would imagine. For example, if you are on your way to play baseball and encounter a fight and use a baseball bat in your defense, its not as bad as walking to the shops carrying baseball bat as a self defense item.

The Judge on the original trial was an arse, he also said his wife wasn't vulnerable as she had a degree and a large circle of friends, apparently he told the judge the offer of a contract from Leics was going to be a fresh start and a prison sentence would ruin his chance!
Judge believed him, afterwards Leics CC said they knew nothing about him!!
Cluster of a first trial.

Turns out his cricket contract was a ruse. He has been taken back to court and the judge reviewed the sentence and the scumbag has now been given a custodial

Need to seriously investigate the judge

If they are making bad decisions they need to lose their powers
