Grass grows at 6°C and above.
It's barely been below that this Winter so the grass has "trickle"-grown.
Some of our fairways, although firm enough to walk on, are a bit too soft for the mowers.
Today is a glorious Spring day down here and the grass is going to explode into life.
Could be a bit fluffy for a while.....

Funny how often this weekend a player approached their ball, looked at it, looked around and said "is this fairway...can I pick and place?"!!

Happy enough to be out there and not slogging through mud

Same for us, it's pretty hard to tell in places. We have a comp on Saturday so hopefully they will get out on the course this week and give it a trim

I am still loving the long greens, 79 on Saturday and 78 on Sunday... the bobbles actually slow my ball before the hole :D:o.

The longer grass at AVGC is helping mop up the wet and making the course very acceptable but the greens would love a roll/mow!

There was some mossy areas growing on a number of fairways, no doubt as a result of all the inclement weather. I hope they are on top of it and they don't allow it to invade the residual fairway grass we have.

Our greens have been worked on right through the winter as they hand mow and this is not creating any damage at all.

For some courses that they use ride on triples to cut the greens they would just cause way too much damage on the greens then the members would really have something to moan about. No one is going to get great surfaces at this time of the year. You are always going to get the odd bobble.

Our fairways were cut last week to semi-rough length (does that mean we shouldn't have played preferred lies over the weekend) as cutting to fairway mower would have done too much damage. Course played quite well over the weekend - except going over on my left ankle on the 7th really made it a tough day!

Bright side - less than 4 weeks now till the start of Spring!

Glad to say our place is in perfect nick , proper tees & full greens at the weekend & the greens are running very well , in fairness we have seldom had more than 3 temps , except a couple of really frosty mornings .. some bunkers were flooded allright but cant complain

18 hole comps back next weekend ,could possibly be qualifiers aswell

The first green looked diseased, is it? Anyhow the course as a whole was great all things considered. No standing water and very little in the way of muck... coming off 3 and coming off 11 there is mud.

Thanks ye, good golf... I actually thought to myself that I had become the golfer I wanted to be a few times this weekend.

Wana get you out for a bit of match play or something... Maybe me and Tommy V you and Neil or something.... Does Neil still play?

Not sure, they had a bit of thatch on a few of the greens which may be on the 1st too.

Neils had problems with his shoulder last few months and seems to have lost interest, think hes suspended his membership for the time being, can always try and get 1 if needed though.

Unlikely to be this weekend (may get out for a few holes later saturday), been asked to play in the scratch team on sunday (boy they must be short lol)

Yeppers, just keen to get a game with you when you can and keen to partner my bro before he goes back to Australia. Just a bit of fun you know, nothing more than £1000 a hole... :fore:

I am sure Shake can join in or anyone really.

You played out your skin in last weeks match so not too strange your have been called up by the club again!
