 Why do people who work in small offices insist on going to work when they are chock full of cold?

Only twice this year have I had a cold and both occasions can be attributed to numpties coming into the office when they are full of snot.

I'm only pleased that it is this week and not next that I have become bunged.

As for the people who love playing the martyr and go into the office to spread their germs, they are nothing but inconsiderate idiots, especially when, as in this case, they could work from home. What makes this worse is that the lad in the office who has spread the germs, doesn't come in for months on end, then when he does he's full of cold.

I appreciate some people have not got the option to work from home, and taking sick days for the common cold is frowned upon, but if you can work from home, then why can't common sense prevail.

Rant over.

If I didn't go in when I had a cold, I'm pretty sure noone would believe me! And if I didn't get my report done, my boss would be a lot more annoyed than if he caught the cold from me.

This is similar for me although If I could work from home as an alternative I would do.

Snap. I could easily do my job at home, but it's really frowned upon, and you have to fight to do it for even a single day. Would rather go into work. Then if everyone gets infected, can point out how stupid the policy is.

I went into the office yesterday, and heard what sounded like a water buffalo having sex. I promptly found another room. And the manager concerned also has the opportunity to work from home... he left the office briefly to go for a chest x-ray his GP had arranged. At least then you could make a phone call in peace.

A water buffalo having sex ....??
Bri ..... You really do live a weird and wonderful life mate ;)

Only in Cleveland......!!

Well seeing as I catch a train that is packed to bursting point everyday, someone bringing cold into the office doesnt reall matter...

We have a few buffalo types at work, we call them Sugar Buffalo, mainly because they majestically sweep across the office floor to empty the vending machines of chocolate.

Don't bring any of your dirty Northern colds down to the clean South.:mmm: Hope you have a certificate to prove you are not infected.

Not as simple as the OP makes out. We have a stringent sickness policy concerning short term absences and three in a rolling twelve month period will trigger the disciplinary process. Imagine then feeling rough with a cold a couple of times a year and then ill with a bug, stomach upset etc and suddenly you find yourself in a first meeting to discuss your sickness.

As I wrote in my original post, I do appreciate that some people do not have the option of taking sick days, due to very strict sickness rules, or that they hold jobs that require a presence .

But...

In this instance the colleague I was referring to does have the option to work from home, in fact he spends the majority of his time working from home, but he chose to come into the office when he was loaded of cold, now to me that is just selfish and inconsiderate.
