OK then, who is your favourite golfer past / present?

I am going to say Seve Ballesteros

Who else has had the Creativity, imagination, short-game brilliance, unique idiosyncracys and wonderful personality?

I am still relatively new to the game but have spent a small fortune on eBay buying DVD`s and old magazines to watch and read about his play.

When I watch him I can feel his charisma coming at me, I feel he inspires me to go out when its freezing cold and want to play or practise.

It must have been so good to watch him live!

OK, I respect you opinion but WHY?

I have had my few beers after a crap week at work and fancy a F.U.G.S online debate.

Ben Hogan because of his skill to "shoot a number", meticulously planning and executing a strategy to achieve a score for a round on a particular course, even to the point of leaving out the 7-iron in the U.S. Open at Merion, saying "there are no 7-iron shots at Merion!!"

You realize this is all going to end in tears don't you? For what it's worth, I also feel a certain affinity for Hogan. You just have a sense of the charisma the man had. They even stopped the train alongside the Burnside course at Carnoustie when he was qualifying for The '53 Open just to let the passengers see him play. Think they'd do that now? (Well, they might if it was Toad that was driving it)
Sinatra came out to watch him play for goodness sake! (He was doing a concert in Dundee Caird Hall at the time)

Hogan never watched Nicklaus practice, but Big Jack used to stand in awe of Hogan as he practiced.
Says it all for me.

Tiger does have the best Pshyhological game in the world by far!

I really do like him but I just cant fell passionate about him like I do Seve.

Maybe its due to the pressure and scrutiny modern day athlete go through stopping him showing his true character?

He is the worlds best golfer ever on paper, but who inspires the most passion?

Seve, he was absolutely sensational. A magical character of the game. The mystery of never quite knowing what was coming next, and then the sheer brilliance around the green.

DHM.

AF your probably right but i'll just throw this out too:

Hogan played and practised golf with only bare-hands i.e. he played or practised without wearing any gloves. Interesting Moe Norman also did the same, playing and practising without wearing any golf gloves. Both these players are/were arguably the greatest ball strikers golf has ever known, even Tiger Woods quoted them as the only players ever to have "owned their swings", in that they had total control of it and as a result, the ball's flight

Any player who has a near fatal car crash to then come back and do what Hogan done was just awesome. Consider this, in 1953 Hogan only played 6 tournaments. He won 5 of them, three being the US Open, British Open and the Masters. He didn’t play the PGA because it overlapped the British. I loved watching Lee Trevino and Seve Ballesteros they’re true entertainers, but Hogan’s the master. I’ve put this on here before, now just for those who have not seen this unbelievable swing. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Fsl7aozegEM

Hogan.../...Zach Johnson ("few players are duller...up there with bernie winters and schnorbitz"). :)

Hogan, Nicklaus, Seve, Faldo, Woods. All for different reasons.
