Anyone on here a member or played it recently? Are the courses good?

Just trying to find out a bit more about it to see if it would be worth the trip.
 
Played it two weeks ago

Both courses are superb - my fav is the red but you will not be disappointed by either.

Also the lunch is world class.

I'd beg to differ; it's still worth he trip even if you are coming from a planet far far away.


Make sure you have the lunch. Personally think the Blue is the better test of golf, but if condemned to play all of my remaining rounds on either course you couldn't wipe the smile off my face.
 
The courses are ranked 43rd and 57th in the current GM top 100.
 
A good friend of mine, a young guy has just landed a gig as one of the pros there so will hopefully get down for a visit later in the year.
 
Play both and have lunch!

Best Summer's day's Golf in England imo!

Courses great and not so long (just sufficient) that 36 holes is too tough.

Only difficulty is picking which of the 2 I love most! Red certainly has the edge for the start, but Blue for the finish!

Any members here? - it costs 20k to join and 5 to 7k per year, so I'm not!
 
One of the cliches about The Berkshire is that it is full of retired military types. I was playing in an Audi dealer event a couple of years ago and had met one of the playing partners and we then ran into the third, who said he was from The Berkshire. 'Oh', the other guy said ' Are you a retired major?', partly in jest. 'No', the Berkshire member replied, 'Brigadier'. He wasn't joking.

On the boy's trip to Ireland last year one of the lads who came with us is an artizan member there, he did say if I ever want a game...

There's 8 of us going to Dublin this year. 5 are Ferndown artizans (Swinley Forest) 1's a Berkshire artizan and the other is a Sunningdale artizan..... if I'm lucky I might get a few games this year :)

Excuse my ignorance but what is meant in this case by "artizan"?

Artisan golf clubs exchange work on the golf course (usually repairing divots) for cheaper membership.

They are there own club and will usually have a different name to the main club, they will have there own comps as well as playing against other artisan clubs. all members are congu affiliated.

I am a member of Burwood artisan golf club and we play at Burhill golf club.

Blue is the more traditional 18, with the toughest nine holes (back nine) Red has the views, some visually stunning holes and more quirky. Six par 3's 4's and 5's. Lots of birdie chances on the par 5's, and seem to remember our fourball all birdied one of them.:thup:

Red is wider, so suits my game more.;)
 
Love both but the afternoon round usually far harder trying to carry the sumptuous lunch and imbibed wine around the place. Lucky enough to get to play it at least once or twice a year. Love it in Autumn when the trees are changing colours. Magical
