I am almost a daily visitor to the range at the belfry. Today all the pro's where up in arms with an ingenious idea from the management. From next year when you go for a fitting at the state of the art center you have to choose your manufacturer first! What a stupid idea. When I was fitted for my i20's I hit all the manufacturers going and, using the track man put the clubs up against each other. So lets say you want to hit the new ap2's and the new callaway apex irons you have to book two seperate fittings at £60 a chuck. I can just imagine how long the line is going to be for booking!!!!!!

Surely the whole point is to see what suits you best with the aid of the fitter, and you rule out 95% of the field before you start? Crazy decision for mine.

Seems a shame to me. A truly brand neutral fitting seems the ultimate...although when I did get a new driver fitted, the fitter was all about the shaft. In terms of the head...he said "what colour do you want?" He felt that all the OEM made comparable heads.

Oh and they said tm are ditching their r1 and rbz stage 2 and there new line up is the sldr and a mystery name that they're keeping under their hat until the launch

It's a race now to get the 1st comment in! Have I made it???

Well I suppose the SLDR's been out a couple of weeks so TM were due another club before xmas!

I believe that's how it was when they 1st opened the fitting centre, might save time for them I guess; it shouldn't take too long to try comparable heads from different manufacturers though you may get a bit of fiddling with the shafts.

I've had 4 fittings all have been with the one manufacturer only type. 1st with Ping before any of the other major manufacturers did it, 2nd for a Taylormade driver at the Belfry, then with Titleist after an injury changed my stats where I decided to go with the fitters suggestion whatever and finally with Cobra for woods as I'd gone against my instincts with the previous fit.

I just think its unlike tm not to publicise their products. The new unknown brand is Coming out febuary I hear

I will be surprised if this comes in to play and I will go else where for my irons next year.

I suppose many people do go to a specific manufacture's custom fitting but it doesn't make sense when the Belfry have all of them under one roof.

The only way it makes sense to me is based on time. I have been fitted At The Belfry once and admittedly a few Years ago but then they were very strict on the fitting lasting no more. I wanted to try everything so by the time I had hit half a dozen drivers there was very little time to do a detailed fit on the best one. If you limit it to one manufacturer then you may fit the full fitting into an hour. Not saying that I agree but it is the only way it makes sense

Poor decision. I went to Pachesham for my fitting purely because I could try everything before making a decision based on the trackman numbers. I wouldn't go to the Belfry or anywhere I couldn't try like for like

I was planning on having a fitting at the Belfry before the end of the year, wouldn't go if I couldn't try multiple manufacturers so hopefully will get in in time

Was also going to go there for an iron fitting this month, but thinking of putting it off until the new year while I get my swing to something i'm fully happy with.
Might go to 3 hammers instead as I think they have a choice of about 4 brands including ping and mizuno which we're the main companies I was looking at.

There may be issues about the amount of funding each brand is providing, perhaps some thinking they don't get a fair shake, so specifying the brand in advance will make it clear and easier to allocate cost.

Still a bad idea for the range, though.

Sounds reasonable enough.

Does any amateur really need to hit 8 different manufactures across each club type (+ all the shaft combos) to be fitted for something they can strike well

Maybe one in a thousand at a push (official stat)
