........a slightly disappointing 27. Mind you, 2 of the 3 rounds were played into a very strong wind and they were my first 3 rounds on a new course so to be expected I suppose. Now need to enter some comps and bring it down (unless they lower the maximum handicap as per another thread and then I am back to square 1 until I can take 9 shots off).

Well done GB72! I'm a bit puzzled, however, about playing 2 rounds ''into a very strong wind''. Do all the holes on your course face in the same direction?

Well done GB72, that aint a bad start. Im playing to about the same standard at the moment.

First one to single figures buys the others beer at a forum meet in the future?

OK not every hole was into strong winds but most are either into the wind or have a cross wind. There are a few that benefit from the wind being behind but not many

Well done GB72, now to win some comp's off that bandit figure!!!

When I first got mine I was disappointed, but "how well" you CAN play and "how" you DO play are two different things. Start building a strategy to overcome the tough holes with a safe bogey (or double if it goes bad) and 27 will seem an easy target to beat...

My lady has got three cards to turn in but she won't do it as she thinks their 'not good enough'. I keep trying to gently remind her that the last thing she wants to do as a beginner is cut herself too quickly and spend the rest of the year chasing a frustratingly low ticket (especially as the flack will come my way). Will she listen?

nope

sounds like your doing just fine getting a 27 to start for exactly the same reason. The world of H/C only club visits (such as many championship courses) just got a large step closer. well done.

meanwhile back at the ranch i'm still trying to break 100 :D

GB dont be so hard on yourself. We all gotta start some where. I was off 28, won a couple of medals/stablefords .Took the money (and flak). Got some practise and lessons in and now play off 20.One thing what did help me get the handicap down is to try and play each hole to your handicap. If you get 2 shots on a par 4 use it to your advantage. You dont always need to be on the green in 2. Get there in 3 and 2 putt. Anyways good luck

I started on 24 so your ahead of me when I started. Keep plugging away and it will soon drop.

Take it and be happy! I got my first handicap when I hit a run of form and played three good rounds and ended up with 15. Haven't played (beyond once a year) until last April and when I re-joined (after 7 years), I immediately got given 15 again! Suffice it to say, I've been struggling ever since and club comps are out of the window!

Still, it's a target if nothing else!
