Rocked up at Celtic Manor yesterday at 6.30 to find rain. Rain. And more rain. Now I know what its like to go to Glastonbury!!
As you all probably saw on the box it was raining in true Biblical proportions And blowing quite hard at times too.
Organisation was first-rate - no issues about getting to the course. Except at our park'n'ride we were told "No bags bigger than 8x6 inches"!!! But when we got in there were lots of rucksacks on the backs of people from other gates!

Anyway, the course looks really good but in truth, I think, if this had been a standard Tour Event it wouldn't even have started. They were squeegeing the first fairway and green long before the firs tee-off time and really the course was unplayable - all day.
Even after the 7 hour break, during which 1/2 the crowd called it a day, the course was still too wet in places. Some fairways and greens drained better than others. And at least we got some golf!!!

But , boy, did we get wet!

Catastrophic waterproof top failure at about 11am followed by trousers at 2.30. Honestly, I doubt any waterproofs except a wet suit could have coped with that!

Umbrellas.
Ban the bloody things right now!
At the first green, unless you were in the front row, you couldn't see past a barrier of nylon. I had my eye poked at least 3 times and ear at least a dozen times. And I lost count of the times I had water running off a brolly either down my neck or all over my jacket. It was raining hard enough without an extra shower as well. The only good thing about umbrellas is that I reackon we saw well over 100 dead ones at various places around the course. Good job too.

Overall.
Value for money - poor
Worth going - Oh yes.
Atmosphere wonderful and had a good laugh with other spectators but it was hard work.
