Visiting the capital at the end of October, staying in Tower Hill area and looking at doing the tourist thing as we've never done it before. Heading down first thing Friday and getting the last train back up north Sat night.

Any suggestions on places to eat/drink whilst we are out and about and especially Friday night. I've noticed that Shad Thames gets plenty of mentions on certain advisor sites, as does Shoreditch - both due to being fairly close to Tower Hill/Bridge.

if you're going out to do some drinking in Shoreditch take plenty of money!

If you're around late at night at Tower Hill, be careful not to take a wrong turn and end up walking around Tower Hamlets....like I did a few weeks back. That's a scary area.

In terms of places to eat..... I LOVE going to Gaucho. It's a steak restaurant, expect to pay around £100-£120 for a couple to eat with a couple of drinks or I always enjoy the Rainforest Café on Shaftesbury Avenue. But to be honest there are 1000s of places to eat in London, you cant go far wrong.

Shoreditch is a great laugh.....are you going with the Mrs? I ask as there is lots of "trouble" to be had in Shoreditch  I normally pay it a vist every 2-3 months or so.

try Bodeans - its a rib and smoked meat place just across the road from The Tower (and round the corner from my office!). they have a decent selection of Bourbon too

Bit further along from Shad Thames is Borough Market - that's a must visit place through the day with lots of "al fresco" eating places and as busy and buzzing market as you will find anywhere.

Yes I fancy going to Borough Market, that's on my tick list.

Yes it will be me and the Mrs so will be having a few drinks and a bite to eat whilst out on the tourist hunt.

Have a drink at 'The old Thameside inn' opposite the Golden Hinde.

Go out on the outside terrace for a good view of the Thames, better at night when its all lit up.

Loved Borough market, but Camden Town is my fave place to go. Don't have breakfast before you go. Your beloved will love the shopping up there as well.

Get up to the Camden Lock and Horse market.
