If you were organising a charity golf day and the format was to be Texas Scramble (3 men teams) with a shotgun start, how long would you schedule for the round? I'm thinking 5 hours to be safe, sound reasonable?

And yes I know slow play is a problem and 5 hour rounds shouldn't be the norm but I have to be realistic here!

5 hour tee closure is what we have do as standard for scramble if shotgun

Are you limiting the field to only one game on each tee at the start? I have played a few where there are 2 games on several tees at the start.

I normally find a scramble is noticeably quicker than the equivalent sized group to get round, lot less time looking for balls, less time on greens etc

I find a 4-ball scramble will get round in the time for a 3-ball stableford

My experience is completely the opposite as people take so long to decide which is the best option out of the 3 hit. We had a texas shotgun start pairs scramble and it took 6 hours. Was painful.

Must be bigger prizes than we get ;)

Yesterday I had texas scramble in the morning(not shotgun). Three balls and four balls(but two ball texas pairs as this is quicker I have found out over the years).

Anyway the 3 balls went off first and where quicker (as on previous days), by about 15-20 minutes. My team managed (4 ball but in pairs) in 4 hours. However this was a course that you do not spend much time looking for golf balls. But one of my last groups must have been 5 hours at a guess.

I would have guessed it will be more based on the course, if it is a course that people will spend time looking for balls, for instance as there is longish rough just off the fairway, then yeah allow 5 hours for sure.
