Hi all, going to play a round next week ,the format is a fourball texas scramble, never played this before, put name down to play. Can someone in simple terms explain how it is played please. All replies appreciated

You all drive off. You pick the best of them then the other 3 go and pick there balls up and you all play from where the best one was. You repeat this process on every shot. Sometimes you are required to take a minimum of 3 of each players tee shots too. Its a fun format, enjoy

Everyone drives, pick the best tee shot, everyone plays second from that point, pick the best shot, everyone plays 3rd from that point and so on. The only caveat being you usually have to take a minimum number of drives from each player.

You all tee off, decide which drive you like the look of and then all play a second shot from within 6 inches of where that ball lies. Repeat until ball hits the bottom of the cup.

Normally there will be a stipulation that a minimum number of tee shots for each player must be used. We have 4 par 3s and at our recent texas scramble an added twist was that each team member had to have a tee shot 'used' at one of them.

As above, but remember if you miss a putt, don't go and tap it in as that is the hole completed, and you partners may not get a putt. Place on the fairway and drop in the rough.

We had a Texas Scramble yesterday, run just as the other guys say. The handicapping methods can vary but we do an exact 10% of the combined, so a team with 10, 18, 14 and 20 handicap would give a 6.2 handicap which if say 6 birdies were made, around ours you would score 71 - 6.2 = 58.8 which is what we were yesterday and came 4th. It was won with a 55. 4 score!

Sorry 71 -6.2 - 6 birdies = 58.8 it is early!!

It is early

You can do my score card if you want

Our Texas Scramble is also 10% combined but the winning scores hit very low 50's even in the 40's

I played in one yesterday. Was a pairs scramble and we got 25% of combined handicap. Oddly there were no drive restrictions. My partner was off 5 and I was proud to contribute 15 of the 74 shots we took, which was about 15 more than I was expecting! :D

We ended up with 67.5 and came 25th out of a field of 34. Winner came in with 61.7, which is 10.3 under so a fairly tight group. Nightmare for us was we know exactly the 5 shots we left out there... we even 4 putted on one hole (the shame)

We play as described above with the addition, the person who's shot is chosen can't play the next shot. i.e. If my drive was chosen, I don't get to play the second shot.

We play quite a few foursomes versions. 6 man/women teams, three drive odds, three drive evens then play foursomes. That is the format for our turkey trot. We have also introduced a yellow ball where each player has to play one hole with the yellow ball. Six holes are picked usually the par 3's and a par 4, and you decide at the beginning who will play each hole. Last time out we had the best scramble score, something like a net 53, but we had a NR as one player could not get out of a bunker with the yellow ball.

Only Blackmoor could have a comp that you need a degree from Oxford to understand - it just shows the level required for membership!
