Hi all,got bottle bonanza(texas scramble) coming up shortly, apparently we are only allowed 4 clubs, putter is one what would your other three clubs be ?All replies appreciated

Hard to say not knowing your course. Our courses aren't long so when we did the 3 club TS at the end of summer, I used 5i, 8i and 52 GW. No one insisted that one of the clubs had to be a putter so I just used the 5i for that. Worked quite well too.

Think about the clubs you need to reach the par 3's in 1. That would be my strategy. If I was able to do that with 2 clubs I'd take my 3 or 5 wood as the final one.

Also probably worth not taking the same clubs as your partner. You get 2 goes at the shot, you may as well give yourself 6 different clubs.

If its a team texas scramble then Id be carrying different clubs between you to try and have all bases covered. Would certainly want a couple with drivers and a couple with wedges and a spread across the rest (would recommend everyone takes a putter too)

My advice is go with peoples strengths, myself and 3 mates won one of these a couple of years ago by a mile because one of my mates has a great long game but can't chip and putt to save his life so he took driver, 5 wood and 4iron, the rest of us took varying mid to short irons and putters. We could reach the long holes in 2 shots and even on the shorter par 4's we could go in with wedges and short irons whilst everyone else was hitting mid to long irons in.

I've never heard of a 3 club type scramble before. For me it would depend how long (or not) my team were off the tee.

We have our 3 club (plus putter) this weekend, but we play it from the red tees.
Driver and GW gets me far enough for 11 of the holes, and of the rest only 1 of them (barring bad drives) I won't be able to reach with a 7 iron, so I'm Driver, 7 iron and gap wedge + putter.

If we played it from our normal tees I'd probably go Driver, 6 iron, pitching wedge.
