Having toothache problems for the last week or so....

Spent today, possibly the nicest day of the year so far, on the couch doped up on painkillers. I think constant pain over a prolonged period is driving me slowly insane!

Anyway, the dentist couldn't see anything obviously wrong so she put me on a course of antibiotics. I'm now 2 days into a 5 day course and no improvement.

Anyone else had this? Do the antibiotics eventually help? Please say yes!

Surprised the dentist coudn't see an abscess. Had one two years ago and it lasted about two weeks.:( Painful beggar, but keeping taking the antibiotics and hope it clears up soon.

No sign of an abscess either. Finger of suspicion is one of my fillings which goes pretty deep apparently. If the drugs don't work it's going to be root canal work......

I've had 500mg antibiotics and 250mg antibiotics... so much so that now if I get 250mg tablets I either double up or go back to the dentist and complain.

Root fillings don't bother me.. just sit in the chair and let it happen. I also have made it clear to the dentist that I want LOTS of injections to numb the area as once I could feel every little tip-tap and wanted to bite his hand off.... he's definitely on my side now :D

If you have an ASDA near you, they sell something called Oragel, it comes in a little tube and works a treat! Think it's about £4 but worth every penny and more effective than any painkilers.

Bad luck Dodger. I also am in my third week of toothache. Saw dentist when it started, Xrays, nothing. Tooth sesitive to hot and cold. Been taking the occasional painkiller. Today the hot/cold problem is better but cannot bite on it (hell that hurts)
If you'r on anti b's it will clear up.
Had an absyss years ago. Started on a friday night and no dentists at weekends, doctors won't do anything. Have never ever taken so many paracetemols, two every three hours day and night + brandy. I lived to tell the tale.
Get well soon.

If it is root canal work that you need then all the painkillers will certainly help, but until it's done it will not go away.

I really suffered with this a few years ago, had 2 root canals done - in Dentist chair for 2 bloody hours! Had plenty of injections and no problem at all. Except, one of them was in the roof of my mouth - aaaggghh - that was a bit painful!

Hope you can get it sorted soon. :)

clove oil works pretty well not sure where you get it from maybe chemist, had an abcess once over a bank holiday the pain was unbelievable I had to have the tooth removed, never have I experianced such relief when the anesthetic started kicking in......

Still giving me bother - maybe a bit less but maybe I'm just getting used to it! Nearly at the end of my antibiotics so might be back at the dentist later in the week. Not happy!

That's the second tip for clove oil today, might try to pick some up tomorrow....
