What a day!! Play of 28 and am yet to break 100. Wasn't expecting anything today was just happy to be out in the rain and not at work. Glad I had no expectations! From 150 in the short irons and chipping was hot, but I found 1 fairway all day and lost 8 balls on my way to 120! Worst thing was it was with colleagues who play of 8-16 and had invited me out. Wanted to go home after an hour and got not better. Belted driver 3 wood and driver. All went right no matter how I changed my stance!!

Get some lessons! there are so many variables that can cause you to slice ( I am speaking from experience) I have sliced my long clubs since i started, for the first few months of this year i had been hitting them all arrow straight with a slight draw, then over night I have started hitting a high bloked fade again.

I guess its your plane not your stance. Unlucky buddy, but as you say, not in the office!

If your losing that many balls, I would leave my driver and 3w at home go 4i off the tee.

I bet you'd be much closer to 100 doing that.

Its not the norm, usually I'm pretty good with the bigger clubs. Find the rough but not other fairways!! I've actually been worki g on the range seeking out extra distance with the driver. Didn't get to go on the range beforehand and usually I take a few balls to cirrect my set up, hoping that's the reason!!

Are you aiming left to try and stop it going right? If so you will make it worse.

Try aiming yourself a little right of the target and point the clubface towards the target.

This line here might be the root of the problem:

Worst thing was it was with colleagues who play off 8-16 and had invited me out.

It is very easy playing off 28, like me too, to be a little bit apprehensive when you are playing with better golfers. You might have very easily, and unconsciously, been trying a bit too hard to smash the ball as far as them which is a recipe for a slice off the Tee as you try to add extra power to your swing and in doing so grip the club too hard: as soon as my drive heads right I know that was gripping too hard.

Stance and club path all important in a drive but the top 1 big thing is closing that club face without that nothing else matters

Cheers guys. Out of curiosity, do you stand more upright with the driver or lower and do a long sweep.

I stand the same height as with all shots but I have a wider base with my feet for extra stability.
But it varies from player to player; good example.

Ian Poulter stands fairly upright when using driver and brings the club up quite steep
Matt Kuchar sits down a little lower, swings round his body before bringing it back to square at impact (although it looked like he had changed his swing a little from what I could tell last week on the PGA tour).

Sounds like my woes. Get a lesson. If you can sort the slice out with the longer clubs it will give you more distance and bring some of the mid distance (350-400 yards) holes in range with shorter and more accurate (in theory) irons. Once you stand there with confidence it will breed confidence

It will probably be your shoulders.

Get a lesson and work on that stance! I am currently spending 20-30% of my practice time working on my stance and alignment, its the difference between me duffing/slicing and my best golf.

My slice/push is caused by my hips not rotating first though impact thus giving me a slight out to in swing path, currently working on sorting it out but my slice is turning into quite a nice draw............this week;)
