No club throwing, shaft snapping, gratuitous swearing, shouting, putter lobbing, bunker destroying, venomous spitting, whinging, whining or lamenting but...

I got so frustrated with myself today and let it negatively affect how I played. To be fair things weren't made easy by the fact they had club trials on this morning so had set up the most difficult pin positions for every hole. That said I lost the tranquility that pervades every purple patch and only briefly regained it for a solitary par at the ninth.

Hit 111 seven shots of which were additional putts I shouldn't have needed if I'd been properly focussed.

That said today I've been mostly annoyed by:

Stupidly difficult pin placement
My playing partner telling me on my backswing to wait for a group to tee of when its my right of way
My missus ringing me midway through the round because she lost her keys (phone will never be on vibrate again!)
Stupid society fourballs who don't ask you to play through when they are painfully slow
Having to work after my round because I had stuff that had to be done before Monday
Myself for getting frustrated and letting it affect my golf

Anyway I'm glad I can come on here and vent and feel much better for getting it out of my system. Must be more chilled in future.

Hope everyone else had a better weekend than me.

You played I didn't. No matter how bad count yourself lucky. Its all part of the learning curve although I'd be having words with HID and in particular your partner. Sadly society golfers often don't play very often and so aren't that well versed on etiquette (they should be but we all know the painful reality) and so if the round is slow just accept it and take your own time as much as you can. Good practice for medal where every shot counts and which are often slowe than stablefords (again they shouldn't necessarily be but they are)

All too easy to let it get to you - we've all been there. Easy to say but (obviously!) the secret is not letting it get to you. After all you're out for a stroll, chasing a little white ball around a field - why worry?

Keeping that concentration on every shot is hard. The better you get the easier it becomes.

I think....

Have a Hamlet Tiger.....Happiness is a mild cigar.... :D :D
Seriously though you'll have planty of days like that.....
A little tip my club pro gave me to take (Alot) of pressure off yourself befor your round is to play all the holes as being one shot above there par...Off our handicap its a good piece of advice i think....Play your Par 3's as 4's
the 4's as 5's and the 5's as 6's....If you try this some day and actually bogey everything you'll have 36 points......
Happy days and theres no pressure on to par anything...Also if you do par its an added bonus....Give it a try sometime .....It does work.... ;)

Tiger, it isnt always society fourballs who will hold you up! Members do it too, escpecially some of the old guard if im honest (very narrow view of my own experience, i know). I play really early at the weekends now so that i'm not waiting on every shot behind people. The games easier when you can play at a decent pace. maybe try getting out early.

Put the phone in the bag if you take it out too, you can always check it while hanging around waiting on those ahead ;)

Missus very apologetic and won't happen again, playing partner gauged my ire from getting the silent treatment for the rest of the whole. Doubt it'll happeng again

play all the holes as being one shot above there par

think I'll do this next time out. Level 5s didn't work for me today I just feel like I'm kidding myself as par on the long holes is tough and 5 on a par 3 too disheartening.

I think I'd benefit from playing in a medal with better players were hold ups are expected. Anyway it's nice to vent and yes I should be glad that I played and the sun shone. Welcome to the world of golf indeed! :D

Firstly I'm surprised Waldringfield have Societies on Sundays.

Secondly, difficult pin positins?

Aim for the centre of the green for your appoach shot, don't get sucked in by the flag tucked to the side or behind a bunker.

There's your biggy.

I'll bet you weren't as relaxed as normal because you had a time limit on how long you expected to be on the golf course. And every delay got you more wound up, I'd wager.

If you really can't get every other time commitment out the way before you tee off then I'd try to get into the habit of expecting as little as possible, except enjoyment, out of a rushed round.

Firstly I'm surprised Waldringfield have Societies on Sundays.

It was a compromise agreed by the members and the new owner. There were a number of course developments that needed to be carried out but obviously financially times are tight. As a result there are occasional weekend societies and a fair few mudweek ones but it keeps the membership price down. As I'm a newbie my speed of play is not normally that fast but the guys on sunday were taking ages.

I did but there are a quite a few tricky greens so when I missed the green the chips were tough and when I hit the putts were tougher. I wasn't pleased with how I putted today but normally there are at least three or four pins I can have a go at, yesterday there were none.

All that said you've all made really spot on comments (work playing on my mind? Hell yes). I'm off work for two weeks for some treatment but will hopefully be able to slot a few 18/9 holes in with the aid of a buggy where I'll be less tense and just pleased to be out there.

Must relax, chill and enjoy :D

Ahhh, the joys of golf ..... just when you think your getting on top of it, it will jump up and bite you .. :(

I couldn't see why people got frustrated on the golf course until I got stuck behind a society four ball and realised that our greenkeeper had a sick sense of humour when it comes to pin placement ......

It happens. . . . . .key thing is to just relax and try to swing tension free. Think tempo and swing smoothly.

Just remember the good shots, forget the bad ones and look forward to playing next time. After all , we play the game for pure enjoyment, it's not as if our lifes depend on it !!!

Those were the days :) I used to do an awful lot of that. It's safe to say i'm a better player now i don't (well not as often anyway :) )
