Whats a temporary green:D

It's one o' them times when the groundskeeper has got bored mowing the fairway and he's decided to go round and round in circles for a bit of excitement whilst giving the fairway a #1 instead of a #2. Then he gets out his Black & Decker and drills a large bore hole in the middle ... just to finish it off. :D

Ours are larger but then our temps are terrible, if out for knock with my normal PP or on my own then I rarely bother trying to putt on them; it's achieving nothing. Thankfully we haven't had too many on this year.

Suppose it depends on the state of the temp greens. Rough sodden bobbly temps greens then a bigger hole would at least make things a little less frustrating. Normal holes on a links course where fairway and green are often difficult to differentiate between anyway.

When we have Temps we have larger holes but I've only played on Temps once in 5 years - it's got to be near unplayable for us to be on Temps

Ours are usually bigger, I remember playing a public course once where a temporary was just a spray painted bit of fairway with a normal sized hole in, putting was a nightmare!

Aye that is strange.

The only thing I wondered is if they tried to make the low stroke indexes more difficult by having a regular hole. This is on our manufactured Par 3, 9 hole course, created from the 5 dry holes we currently have. So the stroke indexes from the main course apply and therefore SI1 is now a 100yd shot!

We only use temps when they are covered in a heavy frost. I hate playing on temps and would prefer to work on my game than trying to get a ball to stop on a frozen lump of bumpy fairway. It becomes a lottery. If I do play we have large holes which I guess offsets the fact that the putting becomes more tricky

We go to temps quite often in the winter.

Proper greens are of course preferable but I'd sooner be playing on temps than not at all. At least you're out there hitting shots.

Our temps are maintained as such throughout the year (during the summer they're GUR) and so they are reasonable to putt on and have proper holes.
