Tee's !!!!!!!!

He's deadly serious!!! Smiffy is the worst golf snob out, he won't play with anyone at forum meets who don't fit his criteria. You must be cat 1, impeccably dressed (clothes ironed etc), and only use the correct equipment!!

It's a hang-over from when he was in the military. You don't get to be a leader of men in a combat situation without standards.

Re ball retrievers, you may save some cash not losing balls, but you pay in so many other ways :o
I do hope you when you know he's on the Forum meet roster, you all each agree to ensure none of you conform to the standards expected by him in some way. :D

At work (although some looking on think its actually a private Golf Society) we have a Boss who drags us kicking and screaming to the golf course every so often, if one of us is wearing a colourful shirt he gives us a strange look of distain. So last year when he made us go to Portugal we all went out and bought the same highlighter pink Nike shirt, turned up at Vale do Lobo looking very muted in our attire then vanished to the locker room changed into these shirts and re-appeared one by one independant of each other, if cartoon steam from ears was real it would have looked and sounded like Steam boat Willy had tootled his horn!!............ Isn't it a great sound when a golf ball clatters through the trees off the first tee!!

Whenever I see somebody using castle tees I automatically check their golf bag for a chipper or a ball retriever, and if they are of a "certain age" an Alien sand wedge.
9 times out of 10 they are also using an original power kaddy, held together with various pieces of string, gaffer tape and various rusty nuts and bolts, and walk like something out of planet of the apes.

Just snorted my coffee out all over my desk:lol:

I use castle tees (there I said it - sounds like I am at an AA meeting or should it be CTA ) but thankfully don't yet quite fit the rest of the picture - something to aim for though

Surely has to be a wind up!

I've certainly been known to use Castle tees! Used to be Grey, but could never find them, so changed to Pink! Orange work well too - and are same height as Grey.

Oh. And I use a (particular type of) Yellow ball too - because it feels best!

I avoid the stigma attached to pink castle tees by purchasing them in Tesco as the pink height tees are purple.

I never used them until I did an experiment with impact tape. I discovered that all my shots were coming off the top half of the driver so I identified the castle tee which gave me a strike off the sweet spot & now stick to that. Pity it's a pink one, mind you! I don't believe in teeing lower into the wind, it just encourages you to hit down on the ball & create more backspin.

Spot on - tee it higher to hit it lower.

I'm a Pink tee user and get all sorts of grief from certain mates - but gives a consistent height every time.
Only drawback to a wooden tee is you don't get the feedback on the sole of the club that you do from the paint off the wooden tee.

I refuse to play golf with anybody using castle tees.
I think they sum up everything that is currently wrong with this great game.

Unless you're joking? Please tell me you're joking!

I wouldn't want to play with anyone who was a snobby as sniffy anyway!

I use orange/pink when driving
Blue for my 3 wood and 4 hybrid
Red for all others!

And I wear a black glove, is there a problem with that as well!!

Golf snobs are the worst!

Surely has to be a wind up!

What's going on?

You don't need to have played with Smiffy to know he's a knob.

You haven't been paying much attention to Smiffy's excessive amount of "expert" posts.

I usually use pink castles but ran out recently. I am using wooden tee's, what a palarva! Guessing the hight then holding my driver against it to make sure its the correct hight and repeat until i get the correct hight. Just stick a pink castle in the ground and away you go

Thats ok, forums are there for differing opinions and to stimulate debate.

Wait till your handicap drops to single figs and see if you still disagree:cool:

I started using castle tees round about the time I returned to single figures for the first time since 1982. My 3 handicap mate uses them. If you believe in teeing the ball at the same height all the time, which I do, castle tees are by far they easiest way of doing it. The height of the grass on the tee doesn't come into it.

OMG (hate that expression) but really is this thread a joke! Do people still use those ghastly tees. How can any man if he wants to be a real golfer use a PINK tee.
Have to agree totally with Smithy. You will not see me using one. In fact I don't want to be seen playing with anyone who uses one. Some standards have to be upheld. Whatever next tracksuit ? God help this nation if this is what, the game is decending to.

well my +2 mate doesnt, and my scratch mate and they're both bigger than your 3 handicapper mate nah nah ne nah nah

/wheres the shakesass smiley when ya need it:rolleyes:

I have a confession to make. I used to see castle tees as a negative:o

Thought that they belonged in the same golfing hell as chippers, ball retrievers and a towel tucked in your trousers. (WTF is that about:confused:)

......but I've fallen back in love with my driver, and my last golfing purchase was a packet of pink castles :o
this sounds like a bloke i played against in a open at one of the more prestigious local courses, but it was not a towel but a Greenhalls beer drip flannel ( the ones they had on the bar) hanging from his pants, his shoes were caked in mud and his other equipment was a bag of mixed clubs and the double chipper!!!!!,it turned out he was the captain from the local muni, nuff said.

Castle tees - the DMD of the tee ground and yet another attempt to dumb down the game as part of the skill of golf is being able to judge...no - not even I would be quite so...

hmmm

no

They've been on the go for donkeys yonks. Thought they were quite groovy in the 70s (I used the yellow one for tees shot as with a wood) - then I thought myself a bit better than that - though I was wrong - and I think that in the 80s they were thought a bit naff

I tend to give away th. ones I find (mostly pink) as have got used to using the wood ones with the yellow band.
