After experiencing servere slow play and waiting on every tee. At one point we were fourth in line behind 3 2 balls (we were a 3 ball) I marched off after 9, ruining my usual Saturday 18th I want to question you all on what time does your club leave between tee times?

Ours appears to be 7 minutes which I think is ridiculous

My course is a pay and play but offers membership which I paid in full for this year, I think it needs to decide whether it is pay and play or values its membership more!

Anyway, tee times, what's the gappage?

Every 7/8 minutes for three ball weekend comps. Goes up to 10 minutes if it's a four ball comp.

It can start a little slow but spreads out after 4/5 holes and then it's OK until the 14th which can back up a bit, but fine again after that.

Should always be 10 mins IMO

If there's 4 groups waiting on a tee then a change in the gap between tee times of a couple of minutes isn't going help.
There's been some slow play or not letting through going on.
Ours are 7 minutes..

whilst 8 makes more sense, 9 is realistic and 10 will normally provide a free flowing course.........you will struggle to get them to adopt a policy that, on paper, significantly reduces their income potential and provides less slots to people who want them.

Every 15 minutes with 3 half hour gaps built in before 12 oclock, for Saturday comps.
Rest of the week just turn up and play.

That sounds very intelligent, the turn up and play would work only for members clubs though.

We usually play at 7:30am and it is busy but flows well, today was horrendous, there was no gaps of large size ahead of any of the groups

All this wouldn't stop the problem in the OP...

4 groups on the tee waiting? You'd need half an hour between times to sort that out.

It's down to slow play.......

Been moved to 8 minutes most days but comps of two balls it's 6. Usually long rounds on mens comp days and would also appear to be the same if there are society's in. We went out after a mens four ball scramble comp today and did have long waits until the 5th. Decided to only do nine as there were hold ups again from the 11th. Most of the problems though would seem to be caused by all levels of handicap looking for their balls in the rough.

We have alternating start tees through the day where 3/4 balls start on the back and 2 balls start on the front then swap every two hours. You dont need to book a tee, just turn up at the correct tee for the time. Some times do allow multiple tee starts.

we had a little more relaxed attitude to it all on the west coast of Ireland. tee off when the group ahead is out of reach.

im not sure what was the official timing between groups.

We don't have tee times. Rock up, peg up and play once the first green is clear. We do have the tee booked for comps and there is an 8 minute gap between groups. Seems to work pretty well

errr that sounds like tee times to me ;)

My place is generally the same for non comp days just rock up and hit if you can fit in. You can however book a tee time on any day and ensure you get out when you want rather than waiting for a few groups that just rocked up. Tee times are in 10 minute gaps but not heavily enforced at the first. Often if the next group is ready to roll they'll tee off when the group in front has reached the 1st green which could mean they hit off a little bit earlier than scheduled. Tends to flow well for anything that isn't a stroke comp.

Thanks for the responses, its pains me to agree with imurg but it is the slow play issue which is worse. The course attracts all ranged in handicaps I'm not scratch player but keep pace, if I can't find a ball after 45 secs I'll just take my medicine and crack on. We had a four ball of cart users playing off the reds slowing everyone down but I can't help but think that making Saturday morning 10 min tee times would help.

The sooner the course can be more members based the better! It started off being nice to be accessible to all players but now it's a bit annoying

8 minutes at our place.

Although I have also noticed that, as the first hole is a relatively easy par 4 with a slight dog leg, it clears in less than 8 minutes so people tee off as soon as it's clear. And then the group behind do the same etc etc so it ends up with 6 minute gaps between groups sometimes and that leads to bottlenecks further into the course. It's never usually too bad though.

The par 3 is rubbish when is is busy as it is just pay and play. On Friday there was a queue of 4 groups waiting to tee off...
