Quick question, it may sound silly, but, can you have two holes that play from a single tee ?

If not, why not, what is the governing factor ?

Do you mean from the same actual tee markers?

I've definitely played courses where two sets of markers are on the same piece of ground but pointing in opposite directions.

From one set of markers that have measured distances to each of the holes.

Can't find anything to disallow it. As long as the Teeing Ground meets the definition from the rules and the markers are no more than 10 yard either side of the point each hole is measured from the it should be fine. Seems stupid though.

Ive played on a peice of area where markers for 2 different tees very very close going in opposite ways but never seen any markers that are used for 2 different holes, I never seen any rules against it but it would cause confusion I think,

Greenmount Golf club has 11 greens, on the 2 of the holes you play to one green when playing the front nine and to a different green when playing the back.

Yes you can. Played at a course which has one tee box, but serves two holes. One is a dogleg right, the other is a dogleg left. I will see if I can find a picture on Google Earth to show you...

Found it...but the imagery is out of date, so it doesn't show the 'second' green

Can't find any reason not to allow it either. Seems a strange one though. never even thought about it until someone asked me last night and I can't find anything about it one way or the other.

Our 1st and 18th share the same teeing ground, but different markers. I've never seen a golf course use the same markers for two different holes, although I agree in princple that I can't see why that shouldn't be possible, I just don't know why it would be done.

One (good) reason to do it would be to a avoid confusion where 2 teeing grounds share the same small piece of turf. Low use low maintenance 9 hole courses certainly do so from time to time, especially when they have constructed winter tees. The rules are worded in such a way that it isn't an issue.

We have got one tee area for two holes, which go in opposite directions. Caught my partner trying to tee off the wrong one.

Never use the same markers, as ours have the hole number and yardage on them.

I've certainly thought about playing 12 again rather than have to suffer another humiliating attempt at 15 :D
